Can't stop reading. I enjoy reading classics, children's literature and novels that were adapted by Hollywood in the 40s and 50s. I especially like the novels of... more »

Hello atleast, I've finished His Family, by Ernest Poole, and am now in the middle of the Magnificent Ambersons. I enjoyed Poole's novel, and it reminded me of Theodore Dreiser in a way, the places of moralizing against social ills, but I did learn from it. There are times, Roger Gale admits, that there is nothing to be said to one's family members; they will do and be as they want and are; there is really nothing we can do to change that. A good lesson in any time. Thanks for the encouragement to read them all.

I pre-ordered Before Green Gables as soon as I saw it was being released. I am looking forward to reading it so much but I have a few library books I have to finish first so I haven't gotten to it yet. I will let you know what I thought soon. Thanks for the message! Keep in touch.

Hi! Do you like children's picture books? If you are looking for a great children's author/illustrator, I'd recommend Don and Audrey Wood's books. My favorites are _Heckedy Peg_ or _King Bidgood's in the Bathtub_.

Thanks so much for keeping me in mind! I have read Cunningham, Hurston and Gibbins on the list and will certainly take a look at the other ones. (I really enjoyed Ellen Foster) I took an Appalachian Women Writer's Lit course back when I was in college. A whole different reading list but really enjoyable.

Hi atleast! Thanks for another recommendation. I couldn't find that in our local bookstore, but I'll keep an eye out for it. Have you read GK Chesterton's books? I just re-read Innocence of Father Brown. It's even more interesting now that I've begun to read between the lines.

Thank you for the great recommendations! I actually have the Cary Grant book and had read the Katherine Hepburn one, and they are great. I'll definitely check out your other suggestions. Also- your bookshelf is amazing! I'm really, really jealous of how huge it is and the quality :)

Hello! Reached your page via the comment you left in 'What are you reading'. I love Louisa May Alcott! So far I've read Little Women, Little Men and An old-fashioned girl. Eight cousins will follow in a few weeks. Anyway, I'm so happy to find someone who's pleased with 'An old fashioned girl' as well. I see you're a member of the classics group, which is another thing we have in common. ;)

Thank you for your response. I really enjoyed The Hob Stories, and I'm disppointed this is now out of print. I didn't even know Mayne wrote another Hob book, so now I'm intent on finding Hob & the Goblins. The Hob Stories reminds me just a little of The Borrowers in that both account for human household mysteries (eg.curdled milk, lost items) in magical ways, ascribing them to these non-threatening and quite whimsical other beings. elephantschild

    Hi atleast
Trawling through your bookshelf I recognise many as books I have, or have read, others recall fond memories of classic films I enjoyed. have you read Jan Karon's book Jeremy, The Tale of an Honest Bunny? It has a quaintness and charming morality about it - illustrated fiction - the kind of book I imagine future adults trying to track down as being a lesser-known childhood favourite.
