AthenasDaughter

Some things I love: Creamy hot latte that tastes like dessert; robin's egg blue skies with big fluffy clouds; crossword puzzles hard enough to keep me guessing but not so hard I give up; a new season of "Lost" or "Heroes"; all the lights turning green and no one in my way; uninterrupted solitude; people who "get" me; exploring an unfamiliar... more »

Love the writing, but this rambles and unless you don't read much nonfiction, nothing really new. Presented well - succinct and straightforward - but I felt as though I could visualize Bryson organizing the various notes he'd taken and figuring out where to scatter them in the book.

Wonderful writing, but the book has no real "story", so it was a halfhearted read. The dialogue and characterizations of the protagonist as a little girl with her father were very unrealistic....she seemed to interact with him in much the same way as she does when she's older, so it took me out of the 'reality" of it. I did enjoy her style of writing, however, so hope she has a "story" to tell at some point i n the future.

    A bit trite, but readable.

Palahniuk seems to have built an entire story around a list of "porn title takes" on the classics. I can literally see him sitting with friends and a list of classic novels over wine until they develop the most hilarious titles. They are definitely funny, but the rest of the story is just "fluff".

One of the most beautifully written books I've ever read.

The first graphic book I felt I could really enjoy as a work of literature, and art. A great read.

Wonderful story, yes. As a piece of written work, it starts out very strong but loses me about half way through.

A nice little novel for those raised in the 70's. Rings true, but tends to read like a Juvenile book at times.

Ugh. Everything about this book is weak.
