Some things I love: Creamy hot latte that tastes like dessert; robin's egg blue skies with big fluffy clouds; crossword puzzles hard enough to keep me guessing but not so hard I give up; a new season of "Lost" or "Heroes"; all the lights turning green and no one in my way; uninterrupted solitude; people who "get" me; exploring an unfamiliar... more »

While I don't know about being totally cool, I will happily admit to having eclectic taste in books. I'm sure Jane Austen and Antonia Fraser would've had some rousing good conversations, if they'd ever had a chance to meet.

What are you reading at the moment? I'm happily re-reading "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" and also making my way through Deborah Tannen's latest, "You're Wearing THAT?", about conversation between mothers and daughters.

    Hi,
Welcome to the site. We have a lot of books in common. :-)
You might like to join the group Sharing a Personal Book Experience. Why not peruse the group to decide. If you do join, I hope you will add some book experiences as well.
I joined Shelfari amost three months ago. I am really enjoying the experience. I have met so many interesting people. My wish list of books to buy is growing by leaps and bounds. Twice now I have purchased and read books from it. I really enjoy reading and sometimes sharing opinions on the different groups

Hi there! Loved browsing your shelf -- we have a lot of books in common. I see you enjoy Bill Bryson, too. I can't read his books out in public, because I get the giggles and people think I've lost my mind. ;-)

Which other humor writers do you enjoy?

Great shelf! We have a lot of the same favorite books. I too am a single mom in grad school. Shelfari is my guilty pleasure!

Good for you for venturing on toward the PhD! I'm considering it but a little worn out right now. How cool that you and I had the same major.
Your job sounds very interesting. Do you get much time to yourself? I feel so indulgent reading what I want now!

Ha! My daughter (the music ed - voice major) wants me to better understand her world, I think. English ed was my focus in college and the mechanics of music is very foreign to me. But, I love that after all the time I nudged her to read, she now encourages me to find commonality with her. And, since today is Mother's Day, both my girls gave me books from my "wish list". Yea! ~ Carla (and yes, I am reading the Soloist right now!)

Welcome! You and I sure do share many, many titles! Is your "reading list" comprised of books you own, but haven't read? And, then, your "wish list" - are those books that you want to have? I'm having lots of fun picking over those two lists for further recommendations from a reader with such similar interests! I see that your daughter is here also - so are my two. What is your field of study at UVA? ~ Carla
