Sprawling, literate, historically accurate, incredibly researched, this is a history of England from the Stone Age to the mid-20th Century, focusing primarily on a small area of the nation - the Salisbury Plain and, more specifically, the area near Salisbury Cathedral. A monumental epic, incredibly well done.
