I don't normally read "romance" books as I think they are mostly for the immature and unrealistic minds of lonely women. I only had this book to read one day and started to read it. I found I could not put it down. Far from being the poor helpless female rescued by the big strong man, this heroine becomes a force to be reckoned with over the course of the book. Because it is based on a true story from historic East TX and Louisiana, it is even more riveting. The author penned this story taken from the diaries of a true pioneer woman. Excellent read!

As with her previous novel, Ms. Lee brings a tour-de-force of spiritual truth and depth exquisitely written and amazing in its scope. Each word is to be savored and examined for the truth contained therein. From the moment of her creation until Adam's death and then her own, this novel takes one from the dawn of innocence on through the Fall and then towards the realization of the promise of reconciliation with the One. Ms. Lee writes with a wisdom beyond her years. I am anxiously awaiting her next novel about Judas which will, no doubt, give a new perspective on an old story.

    Demon: A Memoir

    by Tosca Lee

I believe that most Christian fiction is drivel that is mass-produced. This, however, is not one of them. Anything written by Tosca Lee (and so far there is just Demon: A Memoir and Havah) is well worth the time you take to read it. It is full of spiritual depth that is surely heaven-inspired. In this book, we follow Clay's life when he first meets the demon on through until the purpose for its visit is revealed. No matter how much spiritual depth you believe you have, this novel will take you deeper. I have also read Havah (which I am now reading to my husband) which is also exquisitely written and deeply profound. I understand her next book will be about Judas Iscariot and I imagine she will once again take us to depths of thought previously unconsidered. Brava, Ms. Lee, brava!!!

This book blessed me and helped me re-think many of my preconceptions about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Although I'm not yet sure as to the scriptural merit of everything in the book or that I agree with every concept presented, I do know that the book helped me draw closer to the Lord once again. My walk with Him had become a walk of endurance more than love in recent years, and I know that at least briefly I felt the love of God reaching out to me once more. Like any other book, read it and take away with you that which blesses your walk and leave what doesn't. This book blessed my walk tremendously.

I don't agree with everything Alcorn says in his non-fiction books, but via his fiction books, he conveys excellent messages about living the Christian life, both the good and the bad. This is probably his best book and has to do with the persecuted church in China. It is a wake-up call for the main character, who is a token Christian in the U.S. He meets real saints in China, who live their lives amidst persecution and the threat of loss of livelihood or death. This is one of those books you want to buy for everyone you know and reread yourself occasionally.

Although I have liked every one of Yancey's books, I was not as enthralled with this one as I was by, say, Rumors of Another World or Soul Survivor. I guess I was hoping for something that would really make me want to go to church more. I've been hurt so much so many times by other Christians that it is hard to keep on keeping on. Much of it seemed to be recycled from other books of his.

I first read this book in my early 20s. I gave it to my first husband. Then I read it to my first child, my second child, and my third child. When they were grown, I gave it to my granddaughter. She is 14 now, and if I live long enough to see her married and with a child of her own, I will hopefully get to read it to my great-grandchild. This is one of those books that should be passed from generation to generation, as its message of selfless love is reminiscent of the love that Jesus extends to us. This one is a classic!
