I loved Poisonwood Bible, so I'm betting you'll like Middlesex a lot. Gripping story unlike anything you've read before, imho. enjoy.

I never know how to answer the "should I read" questions. I think the problem is the question. What do you like to read? Why do you ask? Why not just look up their reviews in Amazon? How many books do you read? Tell us more about you.

Having said all that, from the books on your shelf, I'd say that you'd like Snow Falling On Cedars - it's light and frothy with some romance. No serious character development. The Shipping News is harder. It will make you think. It doesn't really go anywhere, but it really makes you feel part of the characters and their community.

Hi--Thanks for the friendship request, but I have to decline. For now, could we just write to each other about books that interest us? I'm overwhelmed with all of the Shelfari friends I already have and the hundreds of "should I read" questions I haven't yet answered. This sounds very whiny, I know. Sorry about that. I just wanted to give you an explanation of why I'm declining your kind offer.

It depends on the book, how stressed I am, and whether or not I feel like reading on my break (vs just staring out into space). How about you?

I did honestly try Nicholas Sparks once, but it was all kinds of "blah blah blah can I make you cry? blah blah blah" to me. :cp I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I really liked the concept behind Year of Wonders; I guess that the execution just didn't do it for me. I kept finding myself bored to tears. :( I read Angela's Ashes *years* ago, but after it had a chance to get all of that hype going. I didn't think it lived up to the hype at all and was a bit bored with it, the way a Nicholas Sparks book makes me bored (but probably appeals to everyone else alive).

Nice to meet you! From the books you have as "Read" on your shelf, seems we share a taste for historical fiction. I look forward to chatting with you!
