“This is one of my all time favorite books. I love de Beavoir's approach to teaching philosophy through literature by emotion and situation rather than through an imposing tome (Being and Nothingness, I'm looking at you).
If you've read Being and Nothingness, you'll notice many of the same ideas present in this novel - Sartre actually read the first draft of this novel while on leave before returning to war and embarking on his own book.
And, once you've read the book and learn a little more about Sartre and de Beauvoir's personal lives, the dedication page takes on a darker, more scandalous tone.”
