The Warmth of Other Suns...I believe that author is from Eustis, Florida (she had a book signing here at our public library). I wish I looked at your shelf earlier...
Oh okay. Very eclectic tastes indeed. This has me wondering if maybe you and your club would want to field test a book for me. In the interest of full disclosure, it's one I wrote and am very close to finishing. I'm pretty hesitant to ask as I'm not sure I want to put it out there, but seeing as how we're complete stranger to one another this could help me avoid embarrassment with those I know. I can go into detail later if you're interested in terms of how you can get a copy. For now, I'll let you know the concept. I love the short story "The Monkey's Paw" but I always had two significant questions about the Jacobs story, which, because he's passed, cannot be answered. So, I decided to write those answers. (This only has meaning to you if you know the story already.) Basically, I wrote about the first 6 wished placed upon the paw, which are mentioned in the short story but never given. I can send links to a couple of sites I've designed for the book. (Just keep in mind, I'm no web designer. I'd add author to that too, though having written a "book" I can't say that easily.) Please know, I won't be even a little bit upset if you and/or the book club say no way. I don't know that I'd want to commit myself to some hack's work either. :)
I liked it as well. I wonder if it was actually based on his grandfather's life? The Madonnas, this book and the Sarkosy movie about the Hermitage have put me in a Russian frame of mind. I guess I'll tackle War and Peace next.
What did you think of City of Thieves?
