Dark. I did not enjoy reading it all. This is another good example that prizes (Printz, Pulitzer, Nobel, etc.) really do not mean anything at all.

The plot was very vague. I cannot believe that the Enclave would not have known that inbreeding would occur when they set up their system.

Simply amazing. This is a perfectly written story about an absolutely atrocious event in human history. Everyone should read this book.

    Edge of Dark Water

    by Joe R. Lansdale

"Hillbilly noire" is an accurate description. This is the first time I have read Lansdale, but it will definitely not be the last. Great storytelling.

The story was very good, and I was ecstatic that the main character was not a whiny teenager. However, I felt cheated because the book just ends. I do not read series, so I feel like I was not given any type of conclusion.

Some of the writing does not seem authentic for a teenager's point of view. The cover is all wrong.

These three short stories are great introductions to middle schoolers about how life is really difficult for many people. For some readers, it will be an eye-opener and bring about the realization that "my life is not that bad." For other readers, the stories will offer them hope.

Hautman never disappoints. He packs a lot of story into a few words. His stories are always interesting, yet no two are the same.

What a brave man Mr. Bauby was. Makes you realize that anything can happen to you at anytime . . . so you better appreciate what you do have.
