    Hi Shawn,

I just wanted to thank you again for inadvertently tipping me off about Peter Benchley's "SHARK TROUBLE"! My copy (which I scored for 1 cent plus shipping--AWESOME!!!) arrived today. It's not a novel, it seems. Oh well. I am excited about reading it. Unfortunately it has to go to the back of the pile---so it will be a year or more until I get to it. Oh well. i wish I could read FASTER! Ha! Cheers!

Hello Shawn, or should I say "S.A."?

You know, now that i think about it, I had another friend named Shawn Davis for years who I met through eBay in the late 1990s. He and I became friends, for the basic reason of the same spelling of our first names. We never met--just chatted via email. We told each other everything and were chummy for about 10 years. He eventually started fading away--which is fine. It eventually came out that after all of this time after leading me to believe he was a gay man named Shawn, he was actually a WOMAN named Shawn! Ha! She just never corrected me when I asked if she were a male with the same name spelling---as sort of an experiment to see what I'd say/what I'd do/how I'd treat her if I thought she was a male. Strange, huh? Not that I, for a minute, believe you are a woman (if you were, well...you need to shave--or get a job in a circus side show). I just thought that as another Shawn Davis, you might find that tale amusing (!?!).

Zowie! I would LOVE a free copy---especially since my circumstances are a bit different than when I wrote my "who am I" introduction thingy. I no longer work for the newspaper. I am no longer employed, actually (by choice). I have gone back to school and am currently hip deep in a nursing program that is kicking my butt---and I have 13 more months to go! Yikes! While I still maintain a relationship with the newspaper (I just had a freelanced article printed Wednesday and I still update one of their community websites daily on a volunteer basis), I am no longer an employee---so anything gratis is a good thing at this point in my life. THANK YOU very much!

While I'm not thrilled about posting my mailing information publicly (is there no private messaging on shelfari??), I'll do it now. Perhaps you can delete it after you've written it down--please, please? It's:

    Shawn Gadberry
    114 DeWitt Ave.

I promise that, if you do send it, i will read it in its entirety. I am a s-l-o-w reader though, plus I am in school as i said, for the next 13 months. In addition to the Anne Rice book (which is long, with small type and will take me a long while to wade through), I have 9 other books I promised myself I'd get through before any new book could jump into the pile (that's because I have a friend who used to own a used book store---and he keeps sending me books---and I already have more books than I could ever hope to read in my lifetime!). So, it will be probably late summer before I get to it. But I'll let you know when I start it...or you can keep checking my shelf (although that's a bit tricky as I have two sets of books I read: one set is my "travel" book--books I read on my daily walks or while traveling. The other is my "home" book--for bedside reading mostly. My Home books take a long while to read and are usually hardbacks. Currently I'm on Stephen King's "Under the Dome"---that will finish before I finish my 9 "travel" books, so you may see 10 or 11 books added to my shelf before I get to yours).

Blah! Blah! Blah! Why am i telling you all of this boring, silly nonsense? Ha! I should just shut my trap and say "THANK YOU"!

Hmmm... A little more perusing and, a-ha! Shawn D is S. A. Davis, author of "Iman's Island"! Since you seem to be a little-known author, should I buy it on Amazon or could I buy it directly from you? I see (reading Amazon) that it is a fantasy based on/paralleling the Bible. While that would normally be off-putting, I'm open minded...and I already went through all of this blathering to you in the note below about my curiosity about you. I'd like to give it a read (and yes, like the bloated Anne Rice tome, i WILL read your entire novel from start to finish). Get back to me... Thanks!

    Cheers!

Hello. I am reading Anne Rice's "The Feast of All Saints". I'm very tired of Rice and have vowed to NOT buy anything new by her again. However I still have a few books by her I';ve had laying around and "Feast" just happened to be next in the pile, so... I'm only 100 or so pages in and already growing exasperated with it. I will finish it--begrudgingly. i hate NOT finishing books. Anyway, since I'm already bored, I decided to look through the reviews on the book, hoping to see something NOT by a fanbot who would write an honest review. I noticed yours for a couple of reasons. One was that it was a 2 star review (most are 5---REALLY!!??!!) and the other being that your name, Shawn, is my spelling (instead of the usual "Sean" or "Shaun"). I decided to check out your page and what little bit of information I gleaned from the page revealed that you are a writer. How exciting. I'd look up the book, but with only a "D" as a last name...I doubt I'd be able to track it down.

I also want to thank you for calling attention to the fact that there's a Peter Benchley book i didn't know existed--"Shark Trouble". I've read all of his ocean-based tales ("Jaws", "The Deep", "The Island", "Beast", "Girl From the Sea of Cortez" and "white Shark"/"Creature". I have, but have not yet read, "Q Clearance" and "Rummies". But I had NO IDEA "Shark Trouble" existed! I thought, with his death, there was nothing else. Ooooo... I am very excited about this book---and as luck would have it, there's a "like new" copy on Amazon for 1 cent! SOLD! Thanks for the tip!

    Cheers!

Hello Shawn. Thank you for the reply. Although I have an interest in numerous books, any books I receive from authors go straight to the top and become a priority. I would be thrilled to read your book, give feedback, and if you would like, I can post reviews on B&N, Amazon, and my book review blog. let me know if this is something that would interest you. Thanks!

Hi Shawn, How are you? Just wanted to say hello and it was good to see some activity on your profile. This reminded me to ask you if there is any news on the sequel? I know I have many books to read, but one more great novel I can squeeze in with no problem at all!! Come on, your number one fan!! Don't disappoint!! Just think, you could autograph another copy for me!! No, seriously, would love to hear what you have to say about this and if it is a no, that is fine, too!
