I really enjoyed the first Kushiel series, but this second one continues to be very rewarding. They are more intimate, less epic-save-the-world, more the focus on a single figure trying to make their way in an intriguing world.

The best historical fiction (or romance) novel set in 18thC France, ever. --Particularly if you enjoy a lot of anti-hero in your hero, being immersed in a fantasy of incredible costume and high society, along with your romantic adventure. Worthy of far more than Five Stars!!!

Adventure at sea during the age of wooden sailing vessels--in Her Majesty's Navy at the time of the Napoleonic War... What could be better? Well, well-written, authentically detailed, exciting tales with fascinating, quirky characters who you'll happily live with throughout this lovely, long series of books--and beyond...!

One of the best historical fiction books (including the rest of the Lymond Chronicles--of which this is the first book) ever written. It is a demanding but rewarding read. People who appreciate this series are True Readers in my mind!
