They say there are two ways to a man's heart: through laughter and through food. I say feed him a disembowled clown.

"No, Monsieur, no, there is nothing real in the world, nothing which merits praise or blame, nothing worthy of being rewarded or punished, nothing which, though it is unjust here, is not legitimate five hundred leagues away - no real evil, in a word, and no constant good." -The Marquis de Sade, Incest

"But beauty, real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins. Intellect is in itself a mode of exaggeration, and destroys the harmony of any face. The moment one sits down to think, one becomes all nose, or all forehead, or something horrid. Look at the successful men in any of the learned professions. How perfectly hideous they are! Except, of course, in the Church. But then in the Church they don't think. A bishop keeps on saying at the age of eighty what he was told to say when he was a boy of eighteen, and as a natural consequence he always looks absolutely delightful." - Oscar Wilde, _The Picture of Dorian Gray_

Many years ago, from across the vast cosmos of space, my ship landed here in a United States where the alleged majority elected a man nicknamed "Dubbya" to be the representative of our country. Though I won't say how uneducated the nickname makes this individual appear (and rightly so), I have seen, in these past many years, how every possible and conceivable advancement in human civilization that occurred since, well the Ancient Egyptians, is slowly being unraveled and how our people are allowing themselves, through inaction, to be cast into the dark holes and pits of the nether regions of undeveloped life. Through a "proven theory," our teachers are being forced to pollute the realm of scientific fact with religious belief in the form of *cough*un*cough* intelligent design as a probable *cough*yeahright*cough* alternative to evolution. Our government requires outreach organizations and school systems to promote its "abstinence-only-until-marriage" farcical nightmare of a policy upon children in order to maintain federal funding. This blackmail creates a silence that is killing. Our basic rights, as well as the document protecting these rights, are not only being diluted, but are threatened by revisionists seeking to destroy the very purpose of the Constitution. And intelligence is being subsumed by a right wing agenda that believes that "God" really cares whether or not two people of the same sex marries while he/she/it sits idly by and allows a continent to be decimated and eradicated. We're in a country in which our representatives, though telling our public schools to improve the condition of public schools and improve public school education (though passing a standardized test, like being on Jeopardy, doesn't mean one is actually knowledgeable), are destroying the very notion of intellectual and academic freedom and telling us to shed our independence and to become like "sheep" to be herded by our leaders. This should bother you.

In friends I look for individuals who are artistic, creative, or punk-ish and who aren't afraid to show they know how to think. Intellect, personality, and humor are great (as are the abilities to read, write, and speak). I want to be engaged in conversation with someone who reads, is up-to-date on politics and world events, someone who is cultured and inventive, someone who is artistic and dynamic, someone with a personality capable of wit and who has a stinging tongue and is a cerebral beast. I like people with an edge or a spark of life to them.

*And all men kill the thing they love,/By all let this be heard,/Some do it with a bitter look,/Some with a flattering word,/The coward does it with a kiss,/The brave man with a sword!* - Oscar Wilde, *The Ballad of Reading Gaol*
