  • The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli

I enjoy the character Spinelli on GH and was expecting this to be an entertaining read. I was hoping it was actually some PI cases him and Sam could have done with his computer abilities and her talents. It had some really funny moments when the character of Diane was speaking to Spinelli. It is a book of short stories of Spinelli's creative imagination that were really out there like his daydreams he has on the show. I did enjoy Carolyn Hennesy's writing style and plan to check out her YA series.

I was disappointed with the flow of the story. It was not what I was expecting based on the title. I found the beginning of the book to be the most interesting.

Really enjoyed this short novella between The Iron King and The Iron Daughter. The story continues as Megan faces the consequences of a promise she makes to an enemy...

This story is a fast paced adventure with friendship, a love triangle, reincarnation, reference to Shakepearean character and "the elixir of life." The cliffhanger ending leaves readers eagerly awaiting the sequel. I found the characters to be very entertaining. This story has many similarities to Alyson Noel's Immortals series, but it feels more "grown-up." The characters are not typical whiny teens with jealousy and immaturity that tend to be the norm of YA books.

The love triangle was not written with suspense of who Cassia will choose which was boring. She only had chemistry with one of the characters IMO. The story reminds me of Lois Lowry's The Giver with the way the dystopian world is written. I found myself writing many of the quotes down in a notebook as Cassia finds herself in this story. I am curious to see what the author does with the second book in this series.

I was quickly pulled into this exciting YA series. The story reminds me of Chronicles of Narnia meets the movie The Labyrinth. It also has elements of Alice In Wonderland and characters from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth.

The protagonist Megan Chase is 16 yrs old and does not fit in with her peers or family. She has her loyal and prankster best friend Robbie and her 4 yr old half brother Ethan in her life. When Ethan is kidnapped, Megan's magical adventure in the "nevernever land" begins. She becomes a pawn in a war between the faery courts when she learns the truth about her parents. She meets interesting characters along the way including a talking cat named Grimalkin and a mysterious prince who has a connection to her friend Robbie. The story is full of adventure and a forbidden romance as Megan searches for her brother. As the enemy threatens to destroy the Fey world, Megan must decide between her two worlds.

  • Left Neglected

Left Neglected is a beautiful story that feels like a memoir rather than fiction. The pages quickly turn while reading the journey of Sarah and her family as they adapt to a new lifestyle following a car accident.

This book was amazing and I can't wait to read more by this author! The characters are well-developed and realistically flawed. It is easy for readers to identify with the characters. The story flows and humor is used throughout the book. The author's research is used effectively without changing the tone of the story. She depicts people with disabilities in a respectful and realistic manner. The only thing that bothered me about this book is sentences being very long with excess commas throughout the story. I will definitely be adding this book to my collection and look forward to re-reading this gem!

My favorite author fails to disappoint with his latest novel, but I don't feel it is one of his best stories. I enjoyed the characters and the relationships that develop. It was predictable at times, but very well-written and romantic : )
