It can be said without much exaggeration that books have ruled and dominated my entire life. Though I mostly read fiction, my reading list in nonfiction reflects my interests: namely folklore and traditional cultures (especially Japanese, Scandinavia, Western Europe,...more »

I have enjoyed One Hundred Saints. I pick it up now and then and read about a saint or two. The artwork, which includes some portions of illuminated manuscripts, is beautiful as well. I enjoy the stories. Saint Bernadette's story is may personal favorite.

Hi. Saw your question and since I read the first two books on Dexter Morgan I should say uh, read it :) I haven't seen the series (it's not shown here in in the RP) but both are enjoyable enough and quick reads as well.

Sorry it took so long to respond to your note. I have to say that Kenzaburo Oe is on my shelf, but I'm not the biggest fan in the world. Some of his stuff I like, but others... Tanizaki, though, is one of my favorite authors in any language.

As for the Tale of Genji... heh heh heh. Not only have I read the whole things... I've read the whole thing in more than one translation! That's not just weird... it's sick!

haha, sorry it took me so long to respond, but this week has just been eating away at my emotional and mental stability... gag.

i'm glad that you liked some of what i wrote. i always find it difficult to share what i've written because it often conveys a very different gillian than what most people are used to. i think i pull of the dumb blonde charade with far too much ease. =)

Vidals historical novels are tremendous, though really his best work is contained in his giant essay collections, espcially The United States.

Lincoln in a historical fraud on the slavery issue..Vidal makes the case and has defended secession as perfectly constitutional..he is right.

Anyhow, the historical novels are particularly interesting because they are based on insider details and personal relationships..remember Vidal came from patrician bloodlines, was the grandson of a Senator, was close friends wiwth Elanor Roosevelt, new the Kennedys well, et.

Perks is one of my favorites. I've probably read it over 100 times. I pick it up whenever I'm feeling nostalgic. I actually made a mixed cd of all the music from it once, if I can dig it up, I'll burn it for you.
