It can be said without much exaggeration that books have ruled my entire life. Though I mostly read fiction, my reading list in nonfiction reflects my interests: namely folklore and traditional cultures (especially Japanese, Scandinavian, Western European, African,... more »

Thank you, Michael. I believe your interpretation makes the most sense; however, I think there's a typo in the book, The Wreath, translated by Tiina Nunnally. The typo is the pronoun, "his" knee. I think it should be "her" knee. Here is the last paragraph of the book:
"When she tried to take his hand to kiss it, he pulled it abruptly away. Then he looked down at his wife, took her hand, placed it on his knee, and leaned his cold, rigid face against it. And in this manner they sat there together, without moving and without speaking another word."

Also, I was thinking Lavran would have to be pretty limber to touch his head to his knee. I don't think I can do this, and if I could, it would be awfully uncomfortable!

Maybe the book shouldn't be cited if it was in the acknowledgements section of the book? It is in the acknowlegements section where the book is mentioned. Again, I really didn't know I was unhining unnecessary section for viewing and really appreciate the update. A clean and neat page is so much more helpful than a needlessly messy one.

On a reading note, when I was updating the information I read the last few pages again. Such a sad book. As a mother of three, a changling is a very distrubing idea.

Again, best to you, thanks for the help and happy reading,

    Elizabeth

    Dear Michael,

I wasn't aware that I was unhiding sections for regular viewing, I thought I was simply adding to my personal viewing. Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. I agree there isn't any reason for the several sections to be viewed. However, Donahue specifically noted "Mother Nature: A History of Mothers, Infants, and Natural Selection" as inspiring to his book and I disagree with the deleted citation. On the other hand, this genre seems to have some personal interest to you so therefore no harm to me that the citation was deleted.

    Best to you,

    Elizabeth

I am do it by what Amanda posted that series are created by an author the "Images of America series" is created by the publisher.

Our current structure allows books to be categories into:

    1) Series - A list of books that were created by the author to have one and/or continuous story. These books were intended to be a series.
    2) Community List - A list of books created by the publisher, Shelfari members, or other lists of books (examples: Oprah's Book Club, Science Fiction Masterworks, etc).

I sent her a message to see what it right but I have put over 500 of the 2000 books in the images of America series into a community group called "Images of America Series"

Hi I thought I was going nuts or the system was messing up but as quick as I removed books from the series "Images of America" and added them to the Community group "Images of America" you were adding them back to the series LOL

I was moveing them and have moved 500 others to the community groups because they are a publisher created group.

Hello Michael, you may want to consider the book Adam's Belle. I am the author. The reason I am recommending the book is it's a very lively memoir of a former Cotton Club dancer who performed on stage and screen during the Harlem Reniassance. Both Isabel and her older sister Fredi Washington were natives of Savannah, Georgia. I am new to Shelfai. Please let me know if toy'd rather that I did not recommend my own book. Another thing that makes this story so interesting is that the family memberswere fair enough to pass but chose not to. Thank you .

Hi again, Michael - Just wanted to let you know that this discussion regarding comic books cleared up my questions:

    http://www.shelfari.com/groups/10713/discussions/225044/How-do-we-handle-comic-books-?showall=true#4222741

In case you are wondering why I removed the single (comic) issues that were added as separate editions to the Seed of Destruction (Graphic Novel) collection, the answer is there.
    take care.

Michael - I noticed you removed the collection status I added to Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and I'm hoping you can give me some tips. I had posted recently in discussion about this issue - that when you add collected works to a book that is part of a series, the collection is removed from its proper order in the series list.
Do you know if this is something Shelfari is working on or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Collection setting? It appears the guidelines for collections have changed slightly since I saw them a few days ago - but at that time they said that it was used to add other shelfari books that are collected in the collection.

Anyway - just wondering if you know something that I don't and if you can help me get it straight so I don't make incorrect edits in the future.
    Thanks.

    Like your descriptions above.
Have you read much George MacDonald? C.S. Lewis said he fancies he never wrote a book that he did not quote him in. I have read edited versions of all his novels, and the collection of fairy tales and short stories: http://www.shelfari.com/books/279809/The-Gifts-of-the-Child-Christ
(and I have all his works on a cd-rom, much of which is on gutenberg project for free...that I haven't gotten to yet.)

To me he is a fantastical, mysterious and sometimes dark author, yet sometimes he brings strains of refreshing conviction and a very unique flavor of God's love and love for God (as he terms obedience). He writes very real novels in addition to his very wild fantasies.

    I totally understand.
I am still willing to make good my offer. Many of my readers who enjoyed Knight of Chaos also enjoyed The Hobbit and LotR. I think you'll like it. It's a bit darker than The Hobbit, but its ending is well worth the read.

I'm surprised that you removed Knight of Chaos from The Hobbit's books like this class. Like The Hobbit, KoC is epic fantasy with adventure, trials and struggles. I'm sure readers will find similarities as well as its differences.
To wit, I'm willing to send you a copy for your collection in either book form or pdf for your review. Let me know wha you think.

    Michael-

Sorry to have delayed answering. Got caught up in putting together what information I could for a book I just finished (it's borrowed and it's a library book)-

The idea sounds great and I thank you. I will try it tomorrow and see how it looks.

I'm going to send you a friend invitation. I will not be over-sensitive should you prefer not to answer, but I need all the honest friends I can get.

Michael- Closing the book. Here is a copy of the request I just filed with the abuse site.

    April 5, 2010

Last week, I reported what I thought abuse of privilege by http://www.shelfari.com/aobozu. I ask that my report be trashed. We have since communicated, settling the dispute amicably. It was a question of misunderstanding of motives.

    My apologies to all concerned.
