Antulang Beach Resort is a luxury resort located on the southern tip of Negros Oriental on Negros island, Philippines, civilizations away from the chaos of the country's capital, Manila. Getting here just takes an hour by plane from Manila: take a direct flight to Dumaguete, which is Negros Oriental's capital city, and another hour by van to Antulang. Yes, we are in the middle of nowhere. And proud of it!
Because of the strong literary presence of Silliman University in Dumaguete (Asia's first American university, established in 1901, which is responsible for the brainchild that is the Silliman Writers' Workshop, established in 1961, making it Asia's oldest and longest running literary workshop), the people of Negros Oriental have always felt an affinity with the written word. We are voracious, bordering on avaricious, readers, and not surprisingly, many prolific writers have gravitated to our shores and have come to call it home.
And speaking of home, Antulang is mighty proud to declare more than 5,000 books have permanently come to roost. These books were sourced from the resort management, specifically, from the collection of our GM Annabelle, who is a glutton for books, and from "bookies" Mr. and Mrs. Don Kennedy of the San Francisco and Capitol Bookstores of Dumaguete, who had a good run for fifteen years, until they closed shop in early 2011. With these many books, we suppose this makes us one of the best-stacked resorts in Asia, if not the world!
