To me, it was a slow starting novel involving a ton of character and plot development. However, it got pretty interesting after the first few chapters and I was hooked.

This is a very engaging story with a threateningly plausible premise. There are plenty of twists in the plot that kept me reading but I felt a little cheated on the last page. Certainly, this is designed as a cliff-hanger and does have me looking forward to the next book -- but it was too abrupt, in my opinion.

Wow - what a great read! It's an action packed page burner.

It struck me as a depressing, brutal story with no protagonists that were likable. It's probably a pretty true facsimile of the sorts of lives depicted in this time-frame - however, none of the major characters elicited empathy from me.

Quirky. Disturbing. But I had a hard time putting it down.

This is possibly my favorite book ever... dispite the fact that each time I read it something about it becomes sadder.

I would recommend this as required reading for every young man setting out on his own life. It's an adventurous account of looking for one's self and finding freedom.
