It’s normal for Dutch high school pupils to learn a (or several) foreign language(s), which means you have to read books in those languages as well. That explains the French and German books on my shelf. The German ones weren’t too bad, the French were hell ;-) These days I read both Dutch and English books.
As a kid I read everything but as an adult I especially love reading detectives and thrillers. And for some weird reason I read a lot of series with the same lead (male) character, usually a cop. Think of John Rebus, Alex Cross, Jack Reacher, Kurt Wallander, Tommy Lynley, Erik Winter, Lukas Davenport, etc.
I work in a library, which save me a lot of money on buying books and since my colleagues know what sort of books I like to read, I am never without a new thriller or detective.
