I discovered (okay, it was my parents who did!) that I love books when I was three and a half. And my first book was Freddy, the Footballer, one my Dad bought for me when we were traveling by the train. I still retain the cover pages of the book! As a kid, I did manage to force my parents to buy every book that I wanted, since I wanted nothing else. But nowadays I am often in a tight situation at the end of the month due to buying too many, even though I buy only used books on principle! I worked for a while as an editor at Cambridge University Press and then spent some months producing pages for the children's issue of a leading daily. Now I am off to coordinate the activities of a Children's Literature Cell established by an NGO working closely with children's literature, child development and education, in central India. « less
