I live in Texas with my partner of 12 years. I never really understood why biographies are so serious, after all, it is about getting to know the author better, isn’t it? I started writing a few years ago, and have had all of my friends read everything I write. Some stories were good, and some deserved what I call the file 13 (a really big Texas... more »

When Izzy, the half-witch ‘wife’ of the Hightower Clan’s new matriarch, Tamara, turns her back on their relationship, Tamara is driven to acts of desperation. Tamara desperately wants Izzy back, but it’s going to take quite a bit to get her. Not only does she want Izzy as her sub, she wants--needs--Izzy’s heart and soul, as well.

Wow! Out of all the Hightower books, Lustful Torment is, by far, my favorite. Why? Probably because it’s told through Tamara’s POV. I love reading her, knowing her intimate thoughts and just how much she loves Izzy, despite the harsh exterior she holds like a cloak around herself.

There are many scenes that show a new side of Tamara--a softer side, if you can believe it. But the loves scenes… damn. The best lesbian scenes I’ve read! If you’ve enjoyed the Hightower books, do not miss this one!

Review From Love Romance and More

FOR THE LOVE OF BLOOD by Annie Alvarez is an interesting beginning of what appears to be a longer story. An F/F story that was a quick read. Izzy is a young woman who has had to deal with adversity. The death of her parents and the shuffling through foster homes due to mysterious power that seems out of control. Finally taken in by the Katz’s, a couple, she finally found a home. Being witches themselves they recognize that she is a half witch. They teach her about all kinds of supernatural things.

Unbelieving of them, she strikes out on her own. Within a short time she comes to understand that what they tried to teach her was all true. She is attacked by a vampire and rescued by another vampire. The female vampire, Kaley, takes her in, gives her a job feeding vampires and a home. Izzy is content. However soon she is asked to feed Kaley’s sister, Tamara. The woman is known as the peacekeeper. Not because she negotiates with them but because she kills them. Izzy is afraid at first but soon realizes there is something more to her. Thus begins their relationship. As well as a hint of something more.

Filled with a world that is rich in various sects and peoples, I was a little disappointed that there was not as much world building that went on. It was only when I went back and re-read the beginning that I understood that this was just the first in what I hope will be many layers in her stories. The characters were interesting and I would like the chance to get to know them better. I enjoyed this book and the characters in it. I look forward to more from Annie Alvarez in this series.

Izzy and Tamara are settling in together, their love passionate as always. But as things usually are with the Hightowers, nothing is guaranteed or simple. When Tamara’s sister Kaley does something unforgivable, it leaves Tamara with a precarious decision to make – one that will change Izzy, and their lives together, forever.

Now Izzy’s dealing with much more than a vampire girlfriend, and her new life is threatening everything – from the fragile status of their relationship, to Izzy’s very sanity. They have to find a solution and fast, or the fallout will be disastrous.

Cheating Death is book two in the Hightower series and a direct sequel to For the Love of Blood. This one had me from the get-go and the action rarely let up. The characters (not just Izzy and Tamara) were very well-written and fleshed out, and the love scenes were incredibly hot.

The plot revolves around Izzy’s new… life and, as such, you’re left holding on for dear life as she spirals out of control. There were several times when I wondered how in the world she’d ever get out of the trouble she managed to find herself in, but that was part of the appeal. Cheating Death has a lot of depth and I greatly enjoyed this installment. Given how it ended, I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book.
