as always with carol goodman, a complex plot and a setting that adds an extra 'character; to the story. this is the first one that had some supernatural elements, nothing distracting or out of place with either her style or the story. as is usual with her, the plot involves two different times that weave closer and closer together until the climax. in the beginning, i found it a little hard to keep track of all the characters in both time frames, which is essential with carol goodman because you have to understand their personalities and motivations to untangle the plot. still, i was dissapointed to get to the end before i'd gotten to the bookstore to get another by her.

i love the way her books resonate on a mythic level. all of the books do. this one used fairy tales. no, not in a hokey way. this is the third of hers i've read this month. and i've started another of hers already.

again a thriller that is more. a great setting that is made as tangible and real as a character. it pulls you along like any good thriller, but has so much more to sink your mental teeth into.

this author was a random, new discovery for me. i really liked it. i guess you could call it a thriller, but it was far more literate and psychologically complex than that. Steeped in ancient myth, an archaeological dig, and the current emotional evolutions of the characters, it was a great read. great use of language.

this is the first book of hers i've read and quite liked it. i liked the unfolding of the main character's past that drove the rest of the story. i liked the setting and the characters, who were believable. enjoyable writing style.

this was ok. another of the da vinci sub-genre offerings. granted, i hadn't read the first book in what i assume to be a trilogy, but the action seemed forced and didin't grab me. the history and conspiracy theory were interesting, but i just wasn't that into it.

i really liked this. it reminded me of a somewhat more literate billie letts. a great sense of place. rich language and full, rich characters. the people in this book and their situations are somewhat oddball, but they are also completely human and understandable. there is no sense of strangeness written for strangeness' sake.

not bad. exciting when it's supposed to be. part of the sub-genre that was spawned by the davinci code. interesting concepts. not high literature, and the writing not as engaging as dan brown, but worth the time if you want to be entertained, or this sub-genre is something you dig.

a very complex plot, sometimes more than was enjoyable. turning pages back to figure out what was really going on. interesting, but the characters didn't grab me. i really wanted something like the shadow of the wind, but this wasn't it. it was ok, but nothing that thrilled me.

certainly better than micah. as always a strong small plot (what i call the plot that only extends for the book, as opposed to the larger story arc that gets developed throughout the whole series). sometimes i want more in the larger story arc, but there was enough here to satisfy. and i just love curling up with anita and co.
