“Written as the memoir of a boy who went through the war in Sierre Leone, not just as an observant, but as a participant. Although the book is about a topic very gruesome and saddening, the narration is beautifully simple, as if you are looking at the world through the eyes of a teenage boy. In a few words, I would describe the book as: simplistic yet emotional, saddening yet thought provoking, most of all - truly an insider's look into the life and thoughts of a child soldier. This book is incredibly important in our times as we struggle to control the violence against women and children in war torn countries. ”
