    You've got some good reasons i'll admit but you know that on your account prefrences you can change what they email you about....i think also I don't even have a phone and agree that texting is way overated and use way way to much! If you have a phone why not just call them? If they don't answer then fine send them a text but trying to have a whole conversation is pointless. Hey I don't even know what iming is!

    So very true. And lets face it, in today's society, you should take whatever kind of romance you can get!

    I didn't find the depth in any of the books like you did but I found the Underland Chronicles to be a good read even if they might not have been as deep as the Hunger Games but they were still pretty good.

    I don't really have reason for saying you should read it other than my loving it. Its a different story line than anything I've ever read. I guess one major issue it has in it is war. Oh and there is sort of a little bit of racism because some of the types of creatures, like crawlers and nibblers (giant spiders and mice), dont have as many rights as the other creatures like killers and flyers (humans and giant bats).
    If you end up deciding to read this book be warned the first few pages, maybe even chapters, are dull and slow, but after that the adventure begins.

    This was the author's first attempt at a novel. That being said, it was a reasonable attempt. As far a story goes, it was all there. What makes me not tend to recommend this book however is the author's views. It has very obvious notes of feminism, especially toward the end. The end itself also seems rushed. The characters go through a long quest and then suddenly the book is ending with little resolution. It had a few nice concepts that I have not previously read in other fantasy books, but overall it was lacking. That is why I said no. Without giving anything away to the plot and to answer your question if it has a deep story, I'll refer back to me saying the author put in too much of her personal views. The main character is a headstrong female that takes no help from anyone. It's mainly about her realizing who she is a person. It shows signs of depth but you're mainly swimming in the shallows for the majority of the book.

    I hadn't thought the Hunger Games was that much deeper. In the Underland Chronicles, it mainly shows how bad war is and it does have interesting characters. Unlike most fantasy stories, the "bad" guys like rats, are not truly evil. No side is pure good or evil.

    Oh, no...nothing like that. It's more of a romantic fantasy that you can lose yourself in. It'd be rather odd to have a story about a human and a werewolf who fall in love and then top it off with something like a discussion about women's rights. Hahahaha, that'd be funny though.

    eek! So excited about you reading speaker of the dead! I must say, i have never been more blown away by a book before in my life! I'm so jealous, you're having a great book week. I've read some weird stuff lately, a lot of it good, but nothing touches what you're reading. I did reread a Lilith Saintcrow novel which I love though...i am so in love with her stuff. anyway, i wont bug you. Enjoy your books!

    It is a pretty fun read. angsty and violent without being gruesome. i think thats pretty hard to do, especially since its got heart too. the ending is like holding a deep painful breath, the anticipation for book 2 is a little overwhelming. I'm so glad I didn't steer you wrong..no pressure there...whew!

    Speaker of the Dead is a huge step up from Ender's Game. It takes a giant leap into adult sci fi/ fantasy but its important because of the topics it brings up. It takes books to a whole new plane. Its probably the most brilliant book I've ever read, very smart, gripping, and just as entertaining as Ender's Game. And, of course, its multiple awards in this genre just prove that this is not a book to be passed over or taken lightly. If you read it, I'd love your thoughts on it!

    I am psyched that you loved Ender's Game. I hoped you would. The sequel is way better too! Hope you check it out! Thanks for letting me know you finished it. The series is practically the best series I've ever read in my life, I was that impressed with it too. Card's a weird kinda guy but a brilliant author.

  • The Ancient One

    The Ancient One says

    Oh our Mother the Earth,
    oh our Father the Sky,
    Your children are we, and with tired backs
    We bring you the gifts that you love.

    Then weave for us a garment of brightness.
    May the warp be the bright light of morning;
    May the fringes be the falling rain;
    May the borders be the standing rainbow.

    Thus weave for us a garment of brightness,
    that we may walk fittingly where birds sing;
    That we may walk fittingly where grass is green.
    Oh our Mother the Earth, oh our Father the Sky.

    I'm trying to get to Part-time Indian and Book Thief, but other books just keep getting in the way! Once I finish a couple of series i'm stuck in the middle of, and finish studying for my grad school entrance exam, i'll be all over them...hopefully! My husband keeps buying me books, on top of my library books, on top of my list of stuff to read that keeps growing! I'll get there!
