I am a stay at home mom and I love to read when I get the chance. Actually, that's not true, I FIND the time to read, at least 2 novels a month. I have read hundreds of books and will, over time, fill in my shelf with as many as I can remember.

    The Practice
The Dalai Lama shared the following simple practice that will increase loving and compassion in the world.

    The Practice:
    1. Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each day remembering we all want the same things (to be happy and be loved) and we are all connected to one another.
    2. Spend 5 minutes -- breathing in - cherishing yourself; and, breathing out - cherishing others. If you think about people you have difficulty cherishing, extend your cherishing to them anyway.
    3. During the day extend that attitude to everyone you meet. Practice cherishing the simplest person (clerks, attendants, etc., as well as the "important" people in your life; cherish the people you love and the people you dislike).
    4. Continue this practice no matter what happens or what anyone does to you.

These thoughts are very simple, inspiring and helpful. The practice of cherishing can be taken very deep if done wordlessly; allowing yourself to feel the love and appreciation that already exists in your heart.

Yes, I finished it a couple of weeks ago. I had to stop reading it near the end because I was on a plane and didn't want to be blubbering and cause a scene. If you like dogs you'll like it. It's not going on my list of favorite books but I did really enjoy it.

I haven't gotten very far in Life of Pi. I have jury duty tomorrow, so I'll probably finish it! That is so funny that you mentioned Water for Elephants. My aunt just recommended it to me too last Friday and I have already downloaded it to my Kindle.

Have you tried paperback swap? You can basically swap books with people (to keep) for just the cost of postage. I did it for a while but then had two babies at once...

Very dangerous. I DO try to make time to read, too. Even if it's just a few pages a night. Must get ready for church, but I'll find Debbie.

Hey Angela, little mama, check out what Christine writes, she is another good friend with our interest in books! I just started a new, old book from the library called "Shanghai Diary", about a young girl who leave nazi Germany and ends up in war torn China, so far it is very good, author is Ursela Bacon. I am glad to hear from you, lets not be strangers! Take care. Gilda

Angela you and I are one of the same as far as our reading appetite, I love Nelson DeMille, James Patterson, Robert Tanenbaum. I've read all but the last 3 books of Patterson, all but the last 2 books of DeMile and 2 only of Tanenbaum (real oldies, but terrific). Try Patricia Cornwell, but read her "Postmortem" and "all that remains" first, I know you will love these. Have you tried any Harlan Coben or Greg Iles, that both are great also.

Okay, I'm confused. I've added a few books, but, I can't seem to figure out how to add them as books I've read. Does that make sense? Any help?
