I also sometimes take to story writing to satiate the creative impulse, or to pen down stories around characters close to my heart. I blog on www.felinemusings.com. • AGHORA, At the Left Hand of God (Aghora)
    • Rated 3 stars

The poor language and editing was distracting but it had some interesting esoteric concepts and descriptions. Some sections were ofcourse hard to comprehend.

    Winner Stands Alone

    by Paulo Coelho
    • Rated 2 stars

Nothing great - a great jumble of information woven into a story or rather an attempt at a thriller - shows the author's intellectual knowledge rather than his storytelling ability. Also the end is not justified - the "killer" leaves behind ample evidence ....

  • Fahrenheit 451
    • Rated 4 stars

Though, I personally feel that Fahrenheit 451 was inspired by the book burning by Nazis and the use of words for propaganda, Ray Bradbury has himself suggested that the book was not intended as a story about government censorship but about how television and deluge of information destroys interest in reading, particularly good literature. To quote from an article published in 2007 in LA Weekly, “Television gives you the dates of Napoleon, but not who he was,” Bradbury says, summarizing TV’s content with a single word that he spits out as an epithet: “factoids.” “Useless,” Bradbury says. “They stuff you with so much useless information, you feel full.” Bradbury sees television as “opiate of the masses”. It is also interesting to note that in an age when most American houses had “box” black-and-white televisions, Ray imagined the contemporary “walled” model that incessantly transmitting family dramas.

  • Christ recrucified: A novel

    Christ recrucified: A novel

    by Nikos Kazantzakis
    • Rated 3 stars

The two prime highlights of this novel are: 1. A true Christain will always have to undergo sufferings, trials and tribulations to cleanse his soul with fire. 2. The world will always be divided between haves and have nots and the bridge between the two will continue to widen even as the rich exploit in the name of God.

A parody based on the crucification and betrayal of Christ - a light thrown on the above two facts - a revelation that even across the centuries, men remain sinners.

  • Blind Faith
    • Rated 3 stars

A little far fetched but some sections were engrossing - the book starts of on a good note, becomes predictable nearing the end. Has some philosophy and reflections on India.

  • The Robber Bride
    • Rated 3 stars

Too lengthy - lost interest in the third woman's story - it was predictable - ended up skip reading the story about Roz. Atwood, however, comes out as a very learned person with ample knowledge of war history and also of spirituality (auras and charms).

Fast paced but general run-of-the-mill stuff - nothing unique from the storyline perspective
