“I feel like I'm missing something here. I know this is the first book of the Time series, but it felt like a took a plunge before I even knew I was in the vicinity of the water. All the characters just seemed to take everything that was happening in stride (and for supposedly smart kids, these did not seem to question anything at all) - everyone seemed to have already agreed probably psychically that, "no, being abducted and leaving the planet isn't weird at all. Now let's go over that hill to the feathered unicorns."
I did stick to the book until the last page since it was mercifully short, but I still didn't get it in the end. Science fiction is one of my favorite genres and I liked the Faith that the kids in the Narnia series had in Aslan, so those elements in this book shouldn't have bothered me. For some reason, though, I didn't like anyone in this story, especially Meg the Brat and I hated how the book assumes the reader is following along when it goes, "oh, yes, stars are like this and we fight the Darkness with this!"
Should I have been reading this when I was a kid like everyone else so I still retained some of that suspension of disbelief?”
