I really enjoyed the beginning of the book and Don's description of his experiences in heaven. I was very unimpressed, however with the writing - it just rambled on and on and seemed disjointed and poorly organized. But in this case it didn't seem to matter, Don and Cecil sold tons of books!

This was one of my favorite reads over the last couple of years... A real page-turner with great characer development. And... you'll learn something about the circus you never knew!

This was a quick read, nice format, and particularly memorable characters...If you are remotely interested in the Native American Culture you should pick up this book.

There was so much chatter about this book and I finally was able to read it. I can see why it is so popular; the writing was fabulous and the story was very engaging. Highly recommended!

My kids and I adored this book when they were little. In fact, on my birthday card this year my 19-year-old wrote, "I'll Love You Forever!" I still get choked up thinking about it...

We read this book as a group here on Shelfari upon my recommendation because I thought the premise was interesting. I did NOT enjoy this book. It was torture to get through it - really. (And I LOVE to read!).Nothing seemed to move forward in this one, and I had trouble keeping up with who was doing what to whom. I also didn't like his style of writing; I think it would have been better to have done this as a piece of historical fiction in my opinion. Constantly breaking in with historical quotes made the writing choppy. I'm afraid I wouldn't even recommend it for a long plane ride...unless you need to get some shut-eye.

A New Promise is a wonderful first novel by an up-and-coming new writer. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

I read all of the Outlander books in about a month. Knowing that these books are hefty -- upwards of 900 pages, that was a huge accomplishment. But I couldn't put them down!
