    Hello amright,
As for the next Booker to read, I did a lot of searching and read many reviews and decided for "From A to X" and then "Netherland".
I finished "Salmon fishing in Yemen" last week. Having looked into your shelf, I thing you will also like it. I really did, and it was a lot fun reading it.
Sea of Poppies... yeah I finally managed to start enjoying it. After page 150 it was suddenly easy to read, and characters were following me day and night. Amazing book. I have some high hopes for it to win the prize this year.

    Hello amright,
Please do me a favour ! donot drown ! as it is good people are far and few in this world and it needs you badly.. may mallu be strong enough to shoulder this responsibility..yeah not learning a language is always a regret..but then I always count my blessings..(there are so many who cannot have even spell thier name)have learned Hindi & Chattisgarhi..exposure has been wider and learning in any case does not stop..am not a foodie either..some time cant even notice discripancies..yeah aapam and stew is yummy and you must have tried fish currie mallu style.. then there are host of vegie dishes during onam that you must already have tried since mallu at arms length for help...
Person giving does not realise the worth of what is parted, it is only the receipient who does so..it is kind and generous (also influence of Gibran..just may be) of you to think it to be so trivial but it can help in greater ways than we percieve..in a way it is our responsibility and some how it is my desire too...
Have taken note of the suggested books and try if I can lay my hands on them...am so happy to join this site and having excavated a gem...thanks you..
Off to Mumbai and Indore for four days..will try to fish out some books on the list...by the way I am carrying GGM this time with me...
So long then...till then wish you a wonderful reading, be cooooooooooooooool and take care, bye...

    Hello amright,
Planning to help graduate "dreamer" to a higher plane in reading..beggining was with nancy drew and stuff like that..now after gold medal in economics, MBA and two years post married life in US and plans for green card, and most importantly my own discovery of this wealth I think time is just ripe...but need to be gradual and smooth without imposing myself so that transition is lasting..has tasted fiction like jeffery archer, john grisham, sydny sheldon but nothing serious...yesterday while chatting I was able to coax to start "Road" by McCarthy..some how have a feeling it might just click..cant dump in the vicinity of GGM right now..it will be a disaster..but would like to culminate at Garcia Gabriel Marquez. there after it will be on auto pilot that I am very sure...aim is to pass on the batton to the next generation and one more good human being in this world so that all dreams could be achieved by dreamer..what else could be more satisfying ...this can happen if the desire is ignited, your ideas will be more authentic and time tested..any tips on next step will be great help...
GGM is swinging me left, right and centre..it feels as if his eyes are always piercing your soul...what great creation of God..
well ! be good as usual and take care..bye..

    Hi Jayati

Of course i remember you. Have been too occupied with studies health travel etc Hope you are doing great!!

Gandhi Jayanti ki shubhkaamnayen. Yes i love that poster. The events are indeed sad & depressing however there is not much we can do except pray and work toward inner peace which is our essence. Unfortunately each one of us is responsible in creating what all is happening around us. The task is difficult however not impossible.

Spent the day watching the movie -- Gandhi. Am seriously looking forward to learning 'charkha'. Heard spinning just like pottery or any other art form has its own therapeutic properties.

How is the weather there? Do you normally fast during 'Navratras'?

keep in touch dear friend. You have promised to teach me bengali cuisine. Courier me some meetha you make on Durga Puja :D

    Stay Healthy

    Lots of Love

    Hello amright,
Your compassion for humanity is very rare to be seen in this present situation..hats off...but then, are you not doing what you can.. and isnt there desire to do more...are you not making efforts to mitigate the problems, what ever tiny way possible...so take solace and continue..drops make ocean..why trivialise efforts put in..you are in the right professiion to make the difference and have said so before..there is always dawn after the dusk..by the way why surmons, you know it all..
GGM is out to his own tricks, let me finish it..
New logo is thought provoking..my daughter's logo says" I am a dreamer but I am not the only one" so there is company..cheers..
    bye and take care

    Hello amright,
When you bless the little girl ,please throw in my blessings too..yeah.. after Prophet you can pick up Broken Wings..it is lyrical with rich expressions befitting Gibran. it is a lifetime read like Prophet and is a must read for those who have heart in their body and soul in their heart..every word pierces your heart..after reading you realise that every body has a Salma Karamy and Gibran in thier life..it leaves you enlightened and transformed..it is so close to life..let me warn you..I choked at many places without feeling embarrased..donot know about you..for me Prophet still remains supreme..
Have no clue about the literature of "Gods Own Country"..have not studied that language..cannot read or write it..exposure has been limited to spoken dilects..in this unending ocean of books and so limited time at our disposal, one can best be selective to fetch few drops and I have lot of catching up to do..so go by recommendations of luminaries and friends like you..donot want to waste time in doing research..
Agree with you about translated works..why cant they be like translated works of GGM..I think because the author thinks and writes in the same language while translators donot...and they miss out on finer aspects of expressions and that is what separates masters from others..
my pooja greetings and happy reading,
    bye and take care,

forgot to mention about small girl looking forward to new dress and festival...you will gain so much by giving..and what is there which is yours to give..you are only a means chosen..and remember while giving..left hand should not know what right hand has parted with...remember Prophet...friend! it is really so filling while giving..you must have helped out many times but this time feel it with Prophet...how blessed and fortunate we are to be able to give...just thought to share it....

    Hello amright,
Cant blame any one for poppies..there are many who liked it..but then "many" are not "me" and "I" am not "many"..read your review and as usual it is apt. this ability comes having faced life squarely and not because you read so many books..kudos for that ..
I donot know when will I touch Ghosh again...if I do, then it will be Hungry Tide..yes I love Chattisgarhi..it is such an innocent and sweet dialect..I did not have complain about Ghosh using bhojpuri but his misuse of it that was the trigger..
profile! yeah, annonymity is best since it has no bias and you are judged by what you post on the site..code red is fine I think..which book have you started now after your waterloo!!
    bye and take care..

    Hello amright,
After poppies..it will take me some time to muster courage to touch a second one from Amitav Ghosh. but as of now my personality is engulfed by the persona of GGM and you always tend to compare with what is close to your heart..Poppies.. I had to take, with not a pinch of salt but with a bucket of salt..
A friend of mine recommended a book titled "The last lecture". On line review sounds good..have you read it?
The conflict of ideology will alway exist...Nelson Mandela was in prison for most of his life..when we have no solution ready with us , we sweep problems under the carpet, and jail is one such carpet where people get thrown in by quarters who has no solution for the problems..this is the system and we are not capable of changing the system unless we become bigger than life, and those who are.. have choosen to be part of the same system..this vicious circle will go on , I suppose..
The condition of the adivasis have not changed a bit..was born amongest them and as late as 2001 was among them for three years and it is appalling to see their misery and suffering..they still eat their BASSI(yesterdays rice fermented overnight) as staple food..half clad..no hygiene worth mentioning..I still remember the "DAI" the old lady who attended to me in younger days used to transport me to school three kms away on her shoulder and used to sing "RELA" and "DADRIYA" ( Chattisgarhi folk lores) on the way..and in return what have I been able to give...nothingness...these are hidden faces of our personality, helplessness(thanklessness?)...and we have to take it to our grave as parting gift..you must have lost me ...right...
Have started "General in his labyrinth" to seek solace from what poppy has done to me..
    happy reading and take care..

    hello friend,
I am impressed with the steely determination and no cost bar attitude of Che more so since it is akin to our profession...here is a man who puts his ideals and nation upper most in his thoughts and action..and what his goes through is no easy feat by any standard..torture,treachery,back stabbing and what not...have not seen his movie because I am not much of a movie buff..have not read this book on your self but will if I come accross..almost finished poppies...disappointed..at least for a person who has the dawn and dusk of the region he is talking about in his blood...will review it..I think I am ready to start GGM once again..
happy reading and have a great day..take care...

    Hello amright,
I pick up books from cities I tour and mostly from airport lounges. Here there is only one book shop worth the name and there is limited choice -- in any case serious reading is limited. Donot trust online trading.Started "Sea of Poppies".Setting reminds me of my childhood days at remote areas of Chattisgarh and Orissa.Let us see how it unfolds...bye

    Hello amright,
The other two book they talk about is his memoires..first volume titled "To live to tell it" is said to have been published and become a hit which talks about his life up to 1955 and he is working on volume two which covers his works.
It also says that GGM was immensely influenced by Franz Kafka and I find him in your shelf..how do you rate him and if the claim is true then I must read him..which one??I believe there is another hoax mail in circulation named "Letter to Bush"..beware!
His bio graphical write up says he is suffering from Lymphatic Cancer since 1999 and takes treatment from LA....
The review on "My melonchly..."does not leave any thing to imagination or misadventure for those who are looking for fun and frolic and it probably is again on a different plateform basically to do with perceptions of love, life, regrets and hopes..and also the smell of death which is more omnipresent that before after certain stages....taste of pudding is in eating it...and you are the best one to judge since you have read it..so what is it ?? by the way this site(modernworld) is good..thanks..
No one writes to ....still eludes me but picked up General in his labyrith, News of a Kidnapping and Snow... reading End of the World but it is not enough to arrest my attention..(abandon!?) .....take care and bye......
