I still love counting and categorizing everything around me. Perhaps this book started it all?

I too was fascinated with the images in the Lonely Doll as a child. I would pour over ever detail. I credit this book with developing an early fascination for interior design and photography.

Yes, the book is rather creepy and it's not just the spanking/Mr. Bear element that creates the slight feeling of odd remove. Something else exists, and perhaps, this something is explained by the life of the creator. See the biography of Dare Wright - quite an extraordinary life.

I have been reading this book in small bites, as the examination of American agriculture as presented by Polan poses far more than a dilemma: it creates distressed anxiety about the provenance of your dinner plate. For anyone interested in eating consciously, for anyone in opposition of the oil wars, for anyone interested in what is actually happening out in the middle-of-nowhere-farm-land America, Omnivore's Dilemma won't disappoint. But I suggest a steady supply of French wine while reading to calm the nerves.
