I love to read--anything and everything! I can see myself becoming very additcted to Shelfari. I can't wait to update my profile with my favorite books (and not so favorite--you gotta know about the bad ones, too!) There are lots (in addition to two large book shelves I have many, many boxes of books, too!) so, this may be a work in progress for... more »

Meg Cabot is a hoot! This is a great ready with a hilarious main character--Heather is a washed up teen pop-star who frequently hears "Anyone tell you you look just like...?" Now she's working in a college dorm and solving murder mysteries! It's a great, fun read

This was the first Jodi Picoult book I read--and it hooked me. I've read many of her other novels since then. Her stories never say what's right or wrong, but she has an excellent way of showing many sides of some difficult situations and debates we find ourselves in as part of humanity. My Sister's Keeper tells the story of a sister who was conceived primairly to be a genetic match to an older sister in need of a bone marrow tranplant. Each chapter is told from a different perspective--the daughter, the mother, the father, the lawyer, doctors, etc. Very well written--it'll make you cry and it will also make you think.

I had to read this book back in college as part of a school assignment--and loved it. Gerda's story is an incredible one and I'm so glad that she decided to do this memoir and share her story with future generations. The highlight was when she came to speak at our college--what an amazing woman.

  • This Is Not Chick Lit
    • Rated 4 stars

Don't get me wrong, I love a good chick-lit novel (sometimes you just need a light read and an easy escape!) but anyone who is looking for a break and looking for literature written by smart females, this is definatley a book to pick-up. The stories are short, but extremely well written and grapple with women and their lives beyond the typical story of girl trying to get the guy, shopping, gossiping with the girls, etc-- a few are even written from the male perspective. A definite must read.

  • Rebecca's Tale

I thought this was a great book--if you enjoyed Rebecca, I think you'll enjoy this one as well. The story is told from the point of several of the different characters, including Rebecca herself. It helps answers some of the questions you might have had at the end of Rebecca.

  • Reading Lolita in Tehran

This is very different from books I typically read and I am so glad I decided to pick it up. It's a wonderful story about the lives of these women and how they came together to read and discuss books that were forbidden to them at the time. This memoir really helped me gain a glimpse of what life is like for women in the middle east--these are strong, smart women and it was delight to read their story.

I am a daughter of Georgia through and through and I just adore this book. I've worn out at least two copies over the years and have lost count of the number of times I've read the book--Margaret Mitchell created such strong, memorable characters and it is always a pleasure to return to their story.

What can I say? This is one of my all time favorite books--who doesn't love Mr. Darcy? This was the first Jane Austen book I ever read and afterwards I was hooked--I've read many of her other works and enjoyed them, but Pride and Prejudice takes the cake!

  • How to Be Lost

I loved this book--the story is told 3 different ways from three different perspectives--this family's tale of a 5 year old child that went missing sixteen years ago is sweet, thought provoking, ocassionally laugh-out loud funny. Though the end leaves me wanting a little bit more...
