Join the Vistas of KY & Appalachian Readers & Authors group as Gail Chandler discusses her book, "The Bluegrass Dream: A Wilderness Adventure of Early Settlers. Here is a brief synopsis of the plot:

In the middle of a snow storm Jess and her Aunt delivered a stillborn that took the life of Uncle David's wife. Devastated by her Father's death in Kentucky Jess vowed to fulfill his dream of life in Kentucky. Dressed in her twin brother's clothes she tried to follow David to the Bluegrass. Weather, Digger and Hutch two Bluegrass long hunters she met, and Indians made her trip very difficult. She reached the Bluegrass on her own and with her neighbor's help she builds her cabin. Then she shared her secret with them. Digger and Hutch returned to the Bluegrass. Hutch found Jess is Jessica and their friction continued. Bandit and Outlaw, Jess' coons added pranks to her life. David and his party arrived, Jess takes in Lightfoot's runaway sister Fawn, then James and Katherine joined the village near Fort McClelland. Jess' life is filled with work, love, Indian raids, death, new life, accidents, nature's elements, and their camaraderie. Hutch and Jess were to be married when he returned from selling their furs in New Orleans. Illinois Indians captured Hutch an hour before the wedding. Jess with the help of Digger and Bill followed on the rivers to retrieve him.

The book can be purchased online in both paperback and Kindle at amazon.com for $15.95.

It's about a criminal defense lawyer who hates the profession and is trying to get out, but thinks he's finally stumbled across someone who might really be innocent. Did you teach me English at Buckhorn, around 2000 or so? Who would have thought I'd become an English major and obsessive reader? I'd have gone on to teach English if we didn't decide to have a baby, but staying home allows for much reading time anyway!

HA! Well, I would NEVER tell! Like you said, I'm sure they stole SOMETHING! : )
Of course, now you can't make fun of Ruth.... HA!
I'm glad you haven't started the book yet because I haven't either. I was just thinking that I need to start it today and try to finish it by Wed. because my sister is coming home for Thanksgiving and I don't think I'll do much reading while she is here. I hope it is REALLY good so I won't have trouble finishing!

I just got started on it....but, yes, it is going to be troubling. Let me know what you think of WW. I have picked it up several times, but I always put it back for some reason.

I picked these up in the children's section at the library. They are perfect for the classroom because of the easy to read format. I think I'll order them off of Amazon to have in my room. I hate you guys didn't get to see John! I was prepared to be jealous! : )

I'm sooooooo in! I really wanted to go, but didn't really want to go alone! What time are you guys planning to leave? I have to go to a poetry workshop at UAH, but I think I finish at 3:00, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I just got Vote for Larry from your school library. I can't wait to start it. I read the Twilight series and I liked Twilight, but the rest went down hill for me. By the time I got to Breaking Dawn, I was forcing myself to finish. I'm glad I read them so I can discuss with my kids, but I'm not crazy about them like most people.

hi there, nice to get a friend call! I am lurching around at the moment trying to stay calm as it's my book launch tonight - I have a new book out called 'Cupboard Love' by Laura Lockington (that's my real name!) so am trying NOT to be nervous and have sworn not to drink too much champagne before noon! Lots of love and keep reading!

Oh, Teachers as Readers is the "fun" reading group. But I do love all the curricular tie-ins. I think it supports science as well as history, which is cool -- and I can't wait to read her new book, about a leper colony on Hawaii!

Amber, since you are reading Jenny Eclair, I wanted to let you know about a great online bookbuying source for British fiction: http://www.bookcloseouts.com. I always check there before ordering from amazon.co.uk. They have a Canadian warehouse which gets a lot of the titles which aren't sold outside specialty bookstores in the states. I like to search by the publishers like Headline and Orion. Definitely check them out.

I really like Jenny Eclair. Her Camberwell Beauty is a fave. I read through Michael Lee West's backlist last year when I was living in Michigan on YOUR recommendation and quite enjoyed those....happy to know she has another out, and set in Alabama, too....
