I love to read, and have loved it since I was a little girl. (My parents did actually punish me by taking books away.) I have read a little of everything, though I tend to prefer fiction. Reading is my escape, whether I'm stressed, upset, or just need a quiet night at home to relax. My mother is an English teacher and my father used to be a... more »

I have yet to read Mansfield Park...but after Pride & Prejudice, this is my favorite work of Jane Austen's. For once, I was actually a little unclear as to how the book would end. If you're an Austen fan, don't miss this one.

    The Wee Free Men

    by Terry Pratchett

First young adult book by Terry Pratchett I've read. While it doesn't have the bite of his satirical adult Discworld novels (understandably), it was still a pleasure to read. The story is fun - and funny - with endearing characters. A must-read for Pratchett fans!

I did enjoy this addition to Austen's Pride and Prejudice. When compared to Darcy's Story (which I also read recently), this is the much better read. This is much more believable as an account of Mr. Darcy - the author creates a real character with unique experiences rather than relying solely on what we know of Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen's book. If you're curious about Mr. Darcy, this is a fairly good read.

I think this may be a first for me - but I actually liked the movie better than the book! Still, I thought the book was a riot. Bridget worries about the things that all women do: bad habits, relationships, career choices, and how she can fix everything she perceives as wrong. If you're a woman (or even if you just want to know what actually goes on inside a woman's head), I recommend that you read this book. It's highly entertaining.

The book isn't bad, but it's no masterpiece, either. This is not to Pride and Prejudice what Wide Sargasso Sea is to Jane Eyre. I found that the author used very little imagination. There were really only two pieces of the book I found enlightening about Mr. Darcy himself, and even so, those pieces weren't profound in the least.
I would've liked to see not only more originality on the author's part, but also a greater attempt at emulating the style from that period - taking more time, using the rich and superfluous language, etc.

Really enjoyed Douglas Adams' writing. Very original, very funny, and for me, it was a great day to wind down at the end of the day. The only one of these books I wasn't crazy about was Mostly Harmless - the last. I didn't feel like it flowed well with the others, and I found it to be rather disappointing. All the same, a fun read!

I loved this book...I thought Ms. Niffenegger did a wonderful job of taking your ordinary love story and turning it into something imaginative, thoughtful, and different. It was a bit confusing at first, but once I got into the story, it was captivating. There's a little bit of everything in this beautifully-written novel.

Great book...I had the hardest time putting it down! I didn't necessarily like all of the characters (the wife made me angry!), but I thought they were well-written, and their motivations for doing the things they did--whether or not those things were right--were very realistic. I would definitely recommend it.

It wasn't quite what I was led to expect from the synopsis. However, it was very well-written. The characters were identifiable as real people and the story relevant to anyone who has ever felt disappointment with a relationship. The end didn't resolve quite enough for me, but since there is a sequel, I guess it can be forgiven. I would recommend, unless you're looking for the happily-ever-after ending that is so unrealistic.
