This is an excellent fantasy that incorporates elements from the story of Tam Lin and, IMO, The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. The diction is evocative and the dark, tempestuous atmosphere memorable. The cover alone, artwork by Kinuko Y Craft, should be enough to convince one to pick it up.

Lisa Kleypas occasionally takes a chance in the kind of heroine she writes in her romances, and this was an example of one where she did so successfully. Here we have a heroine more believable considering her times: practical about the marriage mart, fond of her genteel position in society and not eager to throw it all away for love. Throughout the story we see her priorities change as she matures and realises that there is honour beyond the aristocracy.

I couldn't finish it. The introduction was good but the rest was too vacuous to merit reading more than a few of Keenan's daily "diary entries".

I'm not interested in reading about centaurs getting it on with demons (or whatever that character was). Sad, perhaps, but true.

This is one of my favourite Austens. The heroine is an absolute delight and one doesn't have to be familiar with 18th C & 19th C gothic novels to find Austen's parody of them hilarious. It's great to read Austen's prose as she approached her literary prime.

With great empathy, skill and care Abani has created a memorable novella of brave girl and her tumultuous life first in Nigeria, then England.

Anyone who has a love affair with the sea, who is absorbed and enchanted by its smell, its movements it essence will deem this book a favourite. It has everything from sea shanties to Millay.
