If you do it in Sept. I have one tip...get used to the water first! It was freezing cold! After all the training I did to be able to swim 1/4 mile, it wasn't the distance that got to me...it was the cold! I was hyperventilating and thought I would pass out. Afterward everyone kept saying "oh yeah, that happens sometimes...you should have gone up to your neck before the race started, to get used to it." (Gee, thanks for telling me now!) Anyway, I made it out alive, but with a terrible time. Good luck to you!
I was originally going to try Lake Padden, but the swim was too long for me. I found a super easy tri in Woodinville called the Tri and Tri again. They do it in June and September. The swim is only 1/4 mile instead of 1/2 mile. The bike is 10 miles and the run is 1.5. It's basically the EASIEST tri you'd ever find! But what the heck, it's still more than most people will ever even attempt, so I'm ok with it!
Hey, Amanda. I'm here in OH, too. Good luck running in this wind! ;-)
I recommend you read Born to Run and Chi Running. Both books changed my perspective on running. They're both awesome!
BTW, I've run a marathon (although, it was years ago) and just recently did a triathlon. If you want any input drop me a line.

Dear Amanda: I am an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April. If you enjoy reading a good thriller like DA VINCI CODE, you might like HUNTING. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. Peter
Sci-fi novels and soccer matches are my hobbies. I joined them together and made the first sci-fi soccer novel in the literature.
But English is my second language and literary agencies don't pay attention to new writers especially when English is the second language for them.
So I would be happy to send some part of my novel to you to see your idea about the text.
About my novel:
Harmony between players and moral power of each player are very important in football.
New digital telecom devices can help coaches to make good harmony between the players.
Special tactics can be learned by these devices to order good cooperation of players in the times of defense and attack.
Also NLP mental skills can improve sport characteristics and morality of players very soon.
All of these subjects are shown clearly in my new novel: "Super Soccer, the year 2010".
We know that digital technology has wide influence in all humane activities and Soccer as the most favorite sport can use new technology very much to improve its quality.
In my story love stands against technology and destroys it. Because Fair Play is the most important thing in sport matches.
With best wishes,
