I love these illustrations. The colors are amazing and the text is simple and sweet. A book like this helps cultivate an "attitude of gratitude" for hard-working Daddy.

I really enjoyed the first two sections of the book -- Industrial Food and Organic Food. The third section, which covered "Gathered Food" (hunting boar, gathering mushrooms, and so forth) was of less interest to me, but still an insightful read.

Highly recommend this for anyone looking to know exactly where our food comes from.

This is by far one of the best and most important parenting books I've read. I picked it up with the intention of reviewing the weaning section and ended up reading the whole thing.

It's warmly written, encouraging, educational, and captures so well the special relationship between mother and child.

Don't skip the last chapter about La Leche's founders. I was deeply touched by the stories of these women's lives and their hearts for mothers.

Helpful information about baby/toddler development. Covers eating, sleeping, playing, and much more. I found it really beneficial as a first-time mom. Also excellent topical chapters (e.g. Illness, School, Grandparents) in the back.

What makes this book different from all the other "green" books?

    It's written by a writer.

Beavan takes us through his one-year eco-experiment with wit, humor, honesty, and darn-good writing. It's the story of his family and what they learn about themselves and the planet. But it is more than that. It's a story for all of us who are greening for meaning.

Biblical and philosophical support for caring about this Earth and the people in it through "green" practices.

Fantastic and inspiring. Great storytelling, honest, and humble. Proves that we can all shrink our food mileage.

Good inspiration for making meals more nutritious without having to eat plain vegetables.

The downside to me was how complex some of the recipes were. Some required ingredients I don't usually have and more ingredients than were necessary. Seinfeld also uses a lot of sugar.

Overall, this is a helpful cookbook and I would recommend it. Worth reading just to get the recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies!
