I d like to take this opportunity to thank my parents for imparting the insatiable desire to read. While such a prospect certainly provides opportunities to explore the world and better oneself, it also encourages obsessively compulsive book buying habits. Nevertheless, this is one insane habit I gladly support, encourage, and refuse to give... more »

Never stopped to imagine how much regular bodily functions can jam up a space shuttle. Terrible pun. Absolutely intended. Mary Roach shares her experiences learning about the in's & out's of regular life (eating, sex, getting along with co-workers in cramped quarters, human excrement, etc...) aboard a space shuttle. Hilarious & mildly disgusting at times--Roach gives us a more down-to-earth view of astronauts.

Wavering at a 3.5 rating. The first 60% of the book had me laughing hysterically nearly to the point of tears. The last 40% was more detail about Fey's show "30 Rock" and, while interesting if you watch the show, it wasn't anywhere near as funny.

Enjoyed this better than Linchpin (less than Tribes).

Excellent, balanced look at modern day slavery. Journalist, E. Benjamin Skinner, shares his experiences as he interacts with slaves, slave owners and other individuals who are part of human trafficking in the 21st century. Skinner takes us to Sudan, Haiti, Romania and many other parts of the world in this compelling expose on a crime so monstrous it must not be ignored.

A fun continuation of the Artemis Fowl series. I missed Mulch, Foaly and the other usuals from the series, but enjoyed the introduction of an entirely new type of faerie.

Steve Jobs is a fascinating innovator and I was hoping for a more indepth & compelling study of his life & work. The writing style kept reminding me of book reports in elementary school--Steve is a dynamic individual, the writing is not.

I rated this book 3 stars because I was able to make it through and leave with a better understanding of how Apple operates.

Made it about 1/3 of the way through and couldn't stay interested. Perhaps I'll try again later.

It's interesting to hear the perspective of Lt. Dallaire about the UN's peacekeeping efforts during the Rwandan genocide of the early 90's. While the writing is a little dry, it's helpful to build a more complete picture of what happened during that tragedy. I highly recommend reading: "Machete Season" by Jean Hatzfeld (perspective of the perpetrators of the genocide) and "We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will be Killed With our Families" by Philip Gourevitch (perspective of the victims).
