I d like to take this opportunity to thank my parents for imparting the insatiable desire to read. While such a prospect certainly provides opportunities to explore the world and better oneself, it also encourages obsessively compulsive book buying habits. Nevertheless, this is one insane habit I gladly support, encourage, and refuse to give... more »

Howdy Amanda - Looks like I'll be up in your neck of the woods shortly! Going to get a week with Josh from the 27th-6th... you going to be around? We should have a little 'Argentine Wedding Party Reunion' or something. Hahah...

    Hello Amanda
Right now I'm reading a book called Crossing California and it's very good. Did you like Great Expectaitions? I think I have to read it for my English class sometime this year if I want to take honors English next year.

I am going to give you the very unusual power of selecting my next book. I find that when one does this, and mind you the giver of such powers must respect the reading prowess of the recipient, it generally has very positive results. I eagerly await you suggestion, at your leisure of course. -S

I finished the Historian a few days ago. As mentioned in my Opinion, the last 200 pp. make the book. It's a very different story from Bram Stoker's Dracula, and has a different sort of "message". It's part memoir (fictional), part travel writing, part young woman's coming of age story, and part East-West conflict story. Judging by your top 10, you might enjoy it a good deal, if you're patient with the slow pace in the first 2/3 of the book.

hey, you left a note for me way back in October and I didnt get it until today! I thought I'd get notified if I got one and I didnt so I never looked. Yea, I am looking for a book. It was a childrens book that I read when I was little but, I cant remember the title or the author, only what it was about. Nice bookshelf! I'm working on getting mine bigger but I'm away from my collection right now and cant remember everything. Thanks for the note! :-)

You have fabulous books, too! Yes, I highly recommend Hope in the Dark. It is a gorgeous book of photography capturing Africa.

I just ordered Dracula and The Historian -- Do you have a recommendation for which order I should read them in? (Planning on Bram Stoker's first, to get the original, then Kostova's.) Seeing that you had both on your shelf, I thought you might have a recommendation. (Btw, The Historian sure seems to be taking a beating on Shelfari ratings --- maybe too literary for some people's taste?)

I really enjoyed the Klosterman book. It's mostly a collection of articles he's written over the years. But he's a great writer, really humorous and intelligent. He ends the book with an original novella...imaginative.

Merry Christmas! I am enjoying the weather, because there's snow in the mountains. I went most of the way up Granite Mt on Saturday with an ice axe. Good fun. I've been reading lots, also. I just bought a new camera. Canon Digital Rebel XTi. It's been a lot of fun.
