  • Blood of Anteros
    • Rated 5 stars

Let me begin by saying I am a huge Georgia Cates fan. I absolutely fell in love with her contemporary romance, Going Under, and decided to read Blood of Anteros, her paranormal romance, and true to form, Georgia did not disappoint in delivering an outstanding story. Curry Brennan is a vampire, and he is not very happy about it. Taken and turned against his will, he has been held captive by his evil sire Marsla for over 100 years. After years of bondage a supernatural event takes place that frees him from his bonds. He meets a new mentor, who helps him learn a new way of life, a life that enables him not to give in to the monster inside himself. Twenty-one years after this event, he returns to his family home and there meets Chansey Leclaire. Try as he may, he can't stay away from her. Fate and the gods have other plans for both Curry and Chansey, but will the choice between mortality and immortality as what Curry believes is a monster be more than he can bear, or will he finally embrace his Agape and the fate the Gods have ordained?

I loved this story. It is told from Curry's point of view. I love the historical feel mixed with the modern romance. Yes, this is vampire story, but it is also a wonderful romance, with some mythology in the mix. I absolutely adored Curry. I felt so bad for what he had to go through, and also wanted him to experience love and joy, and he's so hot, even though he doesn't realize it. I loved the way he desired to protect Chansey and how he was willing to sacrifice anything and everything because of his love for her. I really liked Chansey also. She is fun, very strong-willed, and very passionate in her beliefs. She knows what she wants and she knows what she was created for, and she embraces that. I especially like Solomn. He brought quite a bit of humor to the story. All the characters were so interesting and enjoyable to get to know. I love the way the story progressed and the plot was great. I enjoyed Georgia's perspective on vampires in general and found it quite refreshing. I especially liked the way the book ended. It is the first in a series, but it ended well, leaving you satisfied, yet still wanting more. This is a great book and if you enjoy vampires stories and paranormal romance, this is book you should check out.

  • Blood Jewel
    • Rated 5 stars

Blood Jewel, the second installment in The Vampire Agape Series, picks up where Blood of Anteros left off. Curry and Chansey have gone to New Orleans to the compound there for Chansey's safety. Curry has proposed to Chansey and they are making wedding plans. While there, the evil Marsala uses black magic in an attempt to see through Curry's eyes and find out their location. Chansey has other plans for Marsala, and nips that in the bud in a rather entertaining way. However, due to the threat of Marsala finding them, they have to move the wedding plans up. After the wedding and the honeymoon, they go to live with Solomon at the Savannah Compound, in order to keep Chansey safe. Chansey wants Curry to change her, so they can be together for eternity, but Curry doesn't want to. Marsala continues to use black magic, and attempts to kill Chansey. This forces Curry to rethink his decision, and he is torn between keeping her human, or changing her into something he doesn't even want to be himself.

While in Savannah, a new fledgeling is taken in and she begs Solomon and Curry to save her sister, who is being held captive by another vampire cult. It is risky, but they agree to attempt to save her. What they find out is that this girl is a blood jewel. Her blood is like heroin to vampires, they just can't get enough. Solomon is forced to do something during their rescue attempt that he hasn't done in years, and he experiences intense inner turmoil afterwards because of what he has done. In the meantime, Curry and Chansey get a very unexpected surprise, one which will change things forever.

I absolutely loved this book. Georgia Cates is one of my favorite authors and she has delivered another outstanding story in Blood Jewel. The prologue to this story is so moving and just sets you up emotionally for what is to come. I fell more in love with Curry in this book. The story is told from his point of view, which I really enjoyed. He is absolutely dreamy and so hot to. I really liked Chansey also. She is just as feisty as ever. We get to know Solomon a lot better in this book to, as well as being introduced to some new characters, all of which were well written and fun to get to know. I loved the plot, and the story was fast paced and filled with romance, action, drama, and danger. Oh, did I mention that Solomon is pretty swoon-worthy himself. I really enjoyed Georgia's take on vampires. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Blood Doll, and I am anxious to see where she will take the story from here. If you love vampire stories, with some romance, mystery, and drama in the mix, then Blood Jewel is one book you will want to check out.

  • Confessions of an Angry Girl (Harlequin Teen)
    • Rated 4 stars

Rose Zarelli is starting her freshman year in high school, which is bad enough. What is even worse is that her dad died in Iraq a few months ago. Her mom has kind of checked out, her brother has gone off to college, and all her best friend Tracy wants to talk about his whether or not to have sex with her boyfriend and how she wants to join the cheerleading squad with the rest of the bimbos. Needless to say, Rose is pissed. Rose has kind of a low self-esteem and tends to put herself down, but she is really much prettier and smarter than she gives herself credit for. She doesn't get into the whole high school scene, and is not willing to do whatever it takes to fit it. She ends up sitting with Jamie Forta, who is a junior, in study hall. She's had a crush on Jamie since 7th grade, when he played hockey with her brother Peter. One thing leads to another and at homecoming, she ends up kissing him. Her opinion on boys changes somewhat after that, but Jamie dates the cheer devil, Regina, who has it out for Rose and is determined to make Rose's life miserable. On top of Regina's bullying, Tracy is becoming distant, and when Rose does something to save a friend's life, Tracy and the rest of the school turn on her and the bullying gets worse. Tracy ends up betraying her confidence, and one day when Regina's bullying involves a comment about her dad, she has had enough. In a fit of rage, she strikes back at Regina, knocking her on her butt and would have beat the crap out of her if Jamie didn't pull her off of her. This earns her the reputation of a bad ass for a little while. Despite Jamie putting Regina in her place, she is bound and determined to get revenge and does something unforgivable. Little does she know, that with Tracy's help, Rose has plans to take the biatch down.

When I started reading this book, I was just expected a cute fun read, but it was so much more than that. Rose's character is real, she's shy, she has low self-esteem, and she's far from perfect, but she is also a loyal friend and isn't willing to compromise her beliefs to fit it. Tracy kind of ticked me off. She was kind of stuck in her own world, though she did end up coming around in the end. I felt kind of sorry for Rose's want-to-be boyfriend Robert. He seemed like a really sweet guy, and cute to. I hope he finds someone. I loved Jamie. I have a thing for bad boys, so I really liked him. I really hope to see him and Rose together in the sequel. I don't think I could have handled what Rose endured when I was her age. I liked the way she stood up for what she believed was right. She was innocent and inexperienced, but she wasn't ignorant.

I really liked the way Louise Rozett addressed drinking, sex, and issues teens deal with. A lot of books tend to create a world in which everything is kind of a "fairy tale, where these things are concerned, and that's okay, and I enjoy them, but this book is real. Like it or not, many teenagers do know and do deal with these issues, and a lot of them are participating in them, even at 14 or 15. I can remember that time in my life, and it's been a while since I was there, but it was going on then to. I formerly worked as a Public Health Nurse and saw far too many 14 year old's come in with STD's and multiple sex partners. Believe me when I say, our 14 and 15 year old's know a lot more than we think they do, and quite a few of them are doing a lot more than we want to believe, so I am really glad that this issue was addressed in this book, and it was addressed in an outstanding manner.

Overall, I really enjoyed Confessions of an Angry Girl. It is an excellent read for teens, and for those of us who are still YA at heart. I liked the story line, I liked the characters, and I liked the topics covered in this book and would definitely highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to seeing what's happens in Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend, the next book in the series.

  • The Weight Of Night - Special Edition (The Progeny)
    • Rated 4 stars

This was a very interesting book. I wasn't sure what to expect when I read the synopsis, but it sounded intriguing, so I wanted to read the book. I am happy to say I was very pleasantly surprised by this novel. The story centers around Alexis and her best friend Keats. Alexis is 18 years old and she and Keats are about to graduate from high school. They have been best friends since they were 6 years old. Alexis has always known she was different. For example, she is super smart and seems to know the answer to every question asked, she only sleeps two hours a night, and she has this thing about being outside and staring in the night, at the stars. Keats is also on the genius level himself, and has a great sense of humor. He has been her rock, the one who keeps her grounded and out of trouble, taking up for her, protecting her, her only friend.

When Alexis' mother is killed in a car accident shortly before they graduate, things seem to be set into motion that change her destiny forever. As Keats begin to investigate his theories regarding Alexis and her abilities they begin to uncover more than they bargained for. Alexis confronts her father regarding a memory and finds that he knows a lot more than he let on, and that her whole life is not what it seems. As she and Keats investigate further, they are lead into the world of Greek mythology, with Gods, demigods, the progeny. Alexis is determined to find the killer who destroyed her family, but a evil God is determined to find her and use her abilities for his own purposes, and uses the one she loves the most to try to manipulate her into doing is bidding. Will she be able to stand up to this evil God and save the one she loves before it is to late?

Alexis is one kick butt heroine, and Keats isn't too bad at holding his own in that arena either. She makes some bad choices, but she is honest, devoted, loyal, and determined. I enjoyed the relationship between Alexis and Keats. They were best friends, knew each other about as well as they knew themselves, and were completely devoted to one another. There isn't a whole lot of romance in the book, but Alexis finally realizes how she feels about Keats, and Keats finally determines that he is going to tell Alexis how he feels about her. After the history is laid in the first couple of chapters, there is pretty much nonstop action. This book is definitely fast-paced and really keeps your interest. I really enjoyed Segall's take on mythology, and the Weight of Night is filled with it. If you enjoy fantasy and mythology, then The Weight of Night is one book you won't want to miss.

  • While It Lasts
    • Rated 5 stars

Let me warn you in advance, I am a huge Abbi Glines fan, so when talking about her books, I tend to go all fan girl....just saying. While it Lasts.....OMG........Cage York......speechless. All I can say is prepare to stick your face, better yet your whole body in the freezer. He is so HOT! I love all of Abbi's books, but I completely and totally fell in love with Beau Vincent in the Vincent Boys...sigh....I mean Beau Vincent is totally to die for. He's the bad boy that is every girl's dream. Then Sawyer Vincent came in a close second in The Vincent Brothers. When I first met Cage in Because of Low, I wasn't overly impressed. After all, he was a man-whore. What did impress me was the way he looked out for Low. In While it Lasts, we get to see another side of Cage, and boy is it good. Now I am completely in love with Cage. I mean he's just like candy...candy for your eyes, and candy you want to just devour. Granted, I'm still completely in love with Beau, and I got this thing for Sawyer to, so what does that make me? I guess I'm a bit of ho to now, at least a book boyfriend ho. Forgive me guys, but I just want you all. Abbi's boys just tend to rock your world.

While it Lasts isn't just about hot sexy Cage York, it has some very deep moments. In the beginning, when we first meet Eva, I found myself crying my eyes out. Eva is absolutely precious and I'm so glad she's the one that finally got Cage. She has suffered such great loss and has been through so much, but she's also very tough and doesn't take any crap either, especially from Cage. Cage is kind of blown away by Eva, first when he sees her and how beautiful she is, then again when she puts him in his place and refuses him. That doesn't happen to often to Cage. Not to mention the fact that her dad, Wilson Brooks, has specifically told Cage that Eva is off limits. With his scholarship and future on the line, that makes things even harder. So he sucks it up, stays in his little room in the barn, and takes on the cows and farm life. Try as she may, Eva just can't help but be attracted to Cage. I mean she's only human, right. They end up growing closer, but Eva isn't ready for Cage to know her secret. She doesn't want him treating her differently or feeling sorry for her. Little does she know that Cage already knows, he's just waiting for her to tell him when she is ready. All he wants is to be there for her. Her heart melts when she finds out that he's known all along and yet treated her just like any other person. The side we see of Cage with Eva is absolutely amazing. He is so caring and sweet, still very hot and sexy mind you, but protective and loving at the same time. Not to say they didn't have their struggles, because they did, especially when they came face-to-face with the issues and people from their pasts. When Wilson Brooks gets wind of what's going on, he kicks Cage off the farm, and Cage has to decide, with a little encouragement from Low, if he's going to stand up and fight for what he wants and loves.

I think this book is by far is the most steamy, hot, and sexy book Abbi has written, not that her others weren't, because they totally are, but While it Lasts takes it to a whole new level. Just thinking about it makes me go need open the freezer again. I loved the way the relationship developed between Cage and Eva also. I really hope they get a sequel. I would love to read more about them. I loved the farm setting and the way the story came together. Abbi is such a gifted and talented writer and she makes you really feel like her story and her characters are real. I mean it wouldn't surprise me a bit to actually find she has a Cage York hidden somewhere....sigh.....smile. While it Lasts so exceeded my expectations, but then again, I don't think Abbi is capable of anything less than outstanding. She knows how to write a love story, and she knows how to create a hot guy that is completely swoon worthy. If you love a contemporary romance, hot sexy guys, steamy love scenes, and and overall great story, then While it Lasts is one book that you will want to read, and then read again. Please be aware that this is a "New Adult" book and contains scenes which are not appropriate for younger readers.

Favorite Quotes from While it Lasts:

“You see somethin' ya want, baby?"
"Maybe. I'm checking things out. Seeing if I'm interested," I shot back with my own evil grin.
"I see something I want," he drawled as he came toward me.
    "You do?"
"Hell yeah, I do," he murmured. "I love chocolate." What? My excitement turned to confusion. His arm reached out beside me and took the piece of chocolate cake I'd brought him.”

“I'm worried that this is too soon. What if you get tired of having me around all the time? What if I eat your Wheaties or leave my makeup out in the bathroom or what if I snore?"
"I don't eat Wheaties, I hope you leave all your girlie shit laying all over the place so I can see it when you're not there and know you're coming back. And you don't snore. You do this soft purring thing that is so fucking cute I just want to lay awake and listen to you.”

The naughty girl inside me, that I honestly didn't know existed, bent my head down and looked up at him through my lashes as I flicked it with my tongue.
"Ah, shit," he whispered but it almost sounded like a moan.
Encouraged by his response I flattened my tongue and ran it up and over his hard nipple.

“I was taking the bad boy off the market for good.”

  • Pushing the Limits
    • Rated 5 stars

I just want to confirm that all the wonderful reviews that I've been reading and seeing all over the internet about this book are definitely well deserved. It is so good. That being said, what can I write or say that hasn't already been said, other than reiterate the fact that this is one book you really need to read.

Two teens, Echo Emerson and Noah Hutchins, are living the typical normal teenage life, at least the one most teenagers dream of, that is until tragedy strikes both of their lives leaving them scarred both physically and emotionally, those scars that are unseen sometimes much worse than those that are. Echo doesn't remember the events behind the tragedy that left her scarred. They tell her that it is her mind's way of protecting her until she is ready to handle the truth. Noah, however, remembers every detail of what happened to his family. He lives with it every day, especially when he thinks about his little brothers, Jacob and Tyler. All three brothers are in foster care now, but Noah's experience has not been pleasant, and he fears his brothers' may not be either. Noah has become the bad boy that every girl is dying to love. He doesn't do relationships, just hook-ups. He is totally smoking hot, and definitely someone Echo would normally never get involved with. Echo has isolated herself from her friends since the incident. Now she is the freak that everyone seems to make fun of and gossip about. The catalyst that brings these two together is Ms. Collins, guidance counselor/therapist/social worker, that neither Noah or Echo are happy about having to see. Ms. Collins asks Echo to tutor someone for her, and Echo wants to make some money to fix her brother's car, so she agrees. Ms. Collins wants Noah to get some tutoring so he can pass his classes and possibly go to college. Though he doesn't want to, Noah agrees. Neither realize that the other will be the one they are paired with, and little do they know that this will bring them together in a way that will transform both of their lives.

This is not your typical love story, the emotions are intense and raw, they go from high to low, and leave you reeling. You can't help but fall in love with both Echo and Noah. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. I felt like I experienced every emotion they did. Katie McGarry has done an excellent job in writing these characters in a way that enables you to become part of them, and I haven't even touched on the secondary characters in the book, which are equally well portrayed. As they each fight to find the truth in the midst of the overwhelming darkness and situations that consume them, they find each other. The hot bad boy helps brings healing to the brokenhearted and beautiful popular girl, and she in turn cracks the hardness in his heart, a heart that has forgotten what it is like to feel, to be happy, and to love. Despite their dysfunctional families and their emotional issues and trials, they become determined to find the normal in their abnormal, and through it all, despite the ups and the downs, despite the hurt and the pain, they find love, real love, the kind that is patient and kind and never ends. Pushing the Limits is an emotional roller coaster, but it's so good you just want to ride it again. I was completely consumed with this book and devoured it, unable to put it down. This is one contemporary romance you won't want to miss.

Favorite Quotes from Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry.

“Her shoulders never shook. No tears streamed down her face. The worst type of crying wasn't the kind everyone could see--the wailing on street corners, the tearing at clothes. No, the worst kind happened when your soul wept and no matter what you did, there was no way to comfort it. A section withered and became a scar on the part of your soul that survived. For people like me and Echo, our souls contained more scar tissue than life.”

"Luke used to give me butterflies. Noah spawned mutant pterodactyls."

His lips curved into a sexy smile and I became lost in him. “I love you, Echo Emerson.”

“Wrapping my arms around her, I walked her backward into the brick. “Tell me you chose me, Echo.”
She licked her lips. Those green eyes smoldered, calling me to her. “I chose you.”

“If you’re scared, tell me. If you need to cry and scream, then do it. And you sure as hell don’t walk away from us because you think it would be better for me. Here’s the reality, Echo: I want to be by your side. If you want to go to the mall stark naked so you can show the world your scars, then let me hold your hand. If you want to see your mom, then tell me that too. I may not always understand, but damn, baby, I’ll try.”

“She gave me the same smile I'd seen on Saturday night. That type of smile caused men to write those pussy-ass songs that Isaiah and I made fun of. I'd sit in Mrs. Collins' office for hours and wake my ass up early to go to calculus in order to see that smile again.”

“Normal. She wanted normal and so did I. "You know what's normal?"
"What?" She wiped away her remaining tears. "Calculus.”

  • Ciao (Volume 3)
    • Rated 4 stars

Ciao is book #3 in the Stories About Melissa series. The series is about a young teenager, Melissa, or Mis as her friends and family call her. It is written in a journal or diary style, in which Mis tells about her life, her family, her friends, her boyfriends, pretty much everything that goes on with her. This book begins with Melissa's 15th birthday party, and goes into her sophomore year in high school. Melissa and her group of friends, Jimmy, Jess, and Brian are back together and everyone seems to be getting along pretty well. She experiences typical brother and sister issues. In the last book, her baby brother Max was born, who has Down Syndrome. In this book, she meets some new friends, Cassie being one of them, who becomes part of their tight knit group. She isn't sure how she feels when Cassie begins to like Jimmy, but she isn't ready to declare him as more than a friend either. She talks about typical teenage issues, dances, hanging out, being grounded, school, boyfriends, and especially clothes. She really loves clothes. In this book, Missy and her friends have to deal with the death of one of their close friends, and the aftermath of that, so even though this is a light and fun read, it does address a series issue also.

Ciao is a really cute and fun story, and brings back memories of being a young teenager again. Personally, I would much rather read about it that actually do the teenage years again. It is much more fun that way. I think this is a book that young tweens and teens would really enjoy and it is a great story, which that age group to relate to.

  • The Broken Destiny: Book One of The Broken Series
    • Rated 5 stars

    Prologue

Throughout my life I have been searching for something. Something I thought I ought to be. I felt like I was living someone else’s life, waiting for the awakening of my own. Like an empty shell burning for life.

That was until the day I lay dying in the Prince’s chambers. I could no longer feel the pain from the tear in my gut, only the hollowed-out feeling that I had made a huge mistake in assuming that taking my own life would have stopped the ancestor’s spirit from raging out. I gave up, didn’t want to see myself kill the ones I loved. I was the chosen one, and threw it all away for what I thought would be to save a life. Could you end a life to save a life? I did, and have regretted ever since. I realized then that things like me where not meant to exist. So you ask what it was that had been missing my whole life. It was I. To find myself I had to lose myself, in the worst possible way. The consequences of my actions became the legend of The Broken.

My Thoughts: This story centers around Ava, a teenage girl who just happens to be the chosen one, destined to save, even though her kind has also been called cursed. Ava lives on a planet called Poseidon. After the earth was destroyed, humans migrated here because it was much like Earth. They live here with the other inhabitants of the planet and are referred to as “The Broken.” Ava is the third generation of “The Broken,” a race of genetically enhanced human beings. Only two are known to have survived from the first generation. Most of the females from the second generation have died giving birth, and many of the second generation males have gone mad during “the change,” which occurs around puberty. With most of the first and second generations gone, that only leaves the third generation, “The Broken.” A chosen few of these will undergo the change at puberty, some go mad, others experience specially enhanced powers, and Ava, well Ava is destined, she is “The Chosen,” because within her lies the power to change the destiny of the planet, and her generation.

Ava and her best friend Sam attend the academy for the humans. Ava has always been different, she is a beautiful girl, but has always felt like she didn’t fit it. Sam has been there for her, comforting her when the nightmares come, looking out for her. They are governed by the Council, a group comprised of the different races, besides the humans, including the Minoans and the Zulu people.

One night after not being able to sleep Ava goes downstairs and encounters a strange male with a smooth voice, who she should be frightened of, but at the same time feels drawn to. She is still thinking about him the next day. The next afternoon after their game, the girls are walking with with their other Maya, who lives in the Minoan village, when a guy on a motorcycle catches Ava’s attention. There is something strangely familiar about him. She and Maya are going to the Minoan village to Maya’s house. On the way there, while crossing a bridge they are attacked by dark evil beings. Though they try to fight, Ava ends up going over the edge into the water, only to be saved by Enoch, Maya’s hot brother. Ava is also drawn to him, yet doesn’t feel as if she can trust him. This was the first attack, the beginning of the destiny that Ava had been chosen for. There is no stopping what is going to happen from this point on. It has begun. The question is, can she and those she loves survive until the end?

I really loved this story. It is a combination of dystopian, fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal romance. There is so much that goes on, it can’t possibly be contained in a review, but know that it is really good. I loved the characters. Ava is the heroine. She’s not perfect and she knows it, and she makes some bad choices, which she really beats herself up about, but she manages to pull herself out of the pit of despair and condemnation, with a little help from Troy. Ah, Troy, what can I say. He is the super hot bad boy that every girl dreams of. He and Ava have chemistry that sizzles, though they have a hard time managing to get together. So many obstacles are in their way. He may get frustrated with her, but he is always there when she needs him. Then there is Enoch. Enoch is really hot to, but he has a dark side. He is Maya’s adopted brother, but everyone warns Ava that he is bad news and to stay away from him. She doesn’t. Things seem good, then things turn bad, really bad. In the midst of all this romance, there is an evil being that is trying to abduct Ava for his own purpose to rise to into power and take over the planet. Ava and those protecting her constantly have to battle all kinds of voodoo, magic, and evil entities. Ava is also trying to learn how to access and use her powers, and keep those she loves alive.

There are so many more other great characters that you get to know in the book. All were entertaining and well written. The plot was creative, imaginative, and unique. Carlyle Labuschagne creates a fantasy world in “The Broken Destiny” that is filled with intrigue, beauty, and mystery. I found myself turning the pages, anxious to see what would happen next. Not only do you have plenty of romance and mystery, but there's also murder, battles with people and evil beings, and action galore. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you are looking for something different, love YA fantasy, paranormal romance, and science fiction, combined with a dystopian feel, then The Broken Destiny is one book you will want to check out. Carlyle Lasbuschagne has done an outstanding job with this debut novel, the first in the series, and I am looking forward to seeing where she takes the story from here.

  • Last Summer
    • Rated 5 stars

Wow. This book was so good. It deals with real life issues in an up front and honest way. Chole Sullivan has graduated from high school and is going to spend her last summer with her parents at her father's lake house. Before, this had been a place of fond memories and fun, but now, it is anything but that. Even though they haven't told her, Chloe knows her parents are on the verge of divorce and can't stand to be around each other. Chloe prepares herself for a long and unpleasant summer. When Chole stumbles upon an old cottage that she and her friend used to play in when they were younger, she happens upon Logan Andrews. She immediately thinks that he is pretty hot, pretty rude mind you, but pretty hot. He asks her to leave and isn't very pleasant about it. Chloe walks out, but doesn't really leave. As she watches through the window, she watches Logan shooting up. It is then that she makes up her mind that she is going to help him, no matter what the cost, and the cost ends up being very high.

When I began reading this book, I literally could not put it down. I immediately fell in love with Logan, and wanted to see him helped. He is quite the hottie to. I really admired Rebecca. She has a lot of her own issues to deal with, but she sees something special in Logan, and she wants to see him set free from the hold drugs has on him. They go through a lot together, and Chloe doesn't enable Logan, but she doesn't abandon him either. She is able to look at him and see the real person, and not the person drugs have turned him into. Without judging him, they embark on a journey to freedom, one step at a time, and in the process Logan ends up helping Rebecca with her issues also. Logan's past threatens to catch up with him, and there are situations which are very intense and dangerous. Things also escalate to violence in Rebecca's family situation.

This book is filled with real life drama. The story line is really incredible. There is plenty of hot steamy romance, and the characters also deal with tragedy, heartache, and pain as they face the issues of drug use and domestic violence. The relationship between Rebecca and Logan is intense, and let me say in advance I loved the ending, and I truly love a book that ends well. They deal with some hard issues and face some tragic consequences, but they also are able to find the good in life and in each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it. It is one of those books that stick with you and I am so glad I read it. Of note, this is a new adult book and contains some intense scenes not appropriate for younger readers.

  • The Blemished (Blemished Trilogy)
    • Rated 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. I love dystopian novels, and this was both fresh and entertaining. The story is set in Britain where there are two kinds of people, the GEMS and The Blemished. With advances in cloning and genetic mapping, parents are now able to choose their children's genetic makeup, eliminating and outlawing the need for traditional pregnancy. Those who are genetically enhances are considered GEMS. Those who are not, are labeled as blemished and are forced to live segregated from the GEMS, wearing clothing identifying them as blemished, serving the GEMS, and are basically considered damaged goods. They are the result of a normal pregnancy but have some sort of genetic predisposition or familial trait that is undesired. Mina and her father have moved to a new town, a new area, in hope of a fresh start. Mina and her father are considered blemished. She meets a new friend on her first day of school, Angela, and they really click. Mina has a big secret, which she and her dad have tried to keep hidden. Then she meets Angela's brother Daniel, who also has a secret, a secret which involves Mina. Daniel is quite the hottie and he is very taken with Mina. Also is the picture is a GEM, Sebastian, who is very interested in her also, even though it is forbidden. Events unfold, friendships are formed, romance is kindled, and choices are made which will forever change the lives of Mina, her friends, and her family.

Wow, I was so delightfully surprised with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is original, fresh, and entertaining. The characters are so well written, and you really get to feel like you know them. I loved Mina. I loved her strength and her determination. I really like Daniel also. He is quite hot, and the chemistry between him and Mina is supercharged. There are quite a few secondary characters in the book that also add a lot to the story. The book is fast-pasted and filled with action, mystery, and murder, with twists and turns that keep you guessing and turning the next page to see what happens. I actually read it in one day. The romance is great. There is a bit of a love triangle, or "square" as Mina would say, and I am anxious to see how that works itself out in the next book in the series. Mina is quite the heroine, and no matter what, Daniel has her back. The Blemished is a great YA dystopian, with the romance included which in my opinion helps make the book. For all you dystopian fans out there, this is one book you should check out. Great debut novel from author Sarah Dalton.
