Hi Alta, Thanks for recommending your new book to me. May I suggest one in turn? Please take a look at "Weeds Like Us" written by my husband, Gunter Nitsch. I think you'd enjoy it. Most of it takes place in Soviet occupied East Prussia following WWII.

I'm very struck by your book shelf. I myself have a Ph.D. in French, but I don't read much in French. I'm a novelist involved in workign on my style in English -- so I gravitate toward writers like Raymond Carver and Evelyn Waugh. My novel Conscience Point is just out in soft cover. Perhaps it would interest you. My published describes it as "Sex in the City meets Brideshead Revisite."

Hi Alta, thanks for the note. I do read Nothomb in French - I love her style. I'm not surprised she is virtually unknown in the US: lots of European writers are!
I've had a look at your website: it's hard to decide what is fact and what is fiction, so I kept wondering: are you from the Ukraine too (like your great-aunt)?
