I truly don't believe that there are enough good things I can say about this book. First off, I love the cover, as (much like the content inside) it is a slightly off-kilter juxtaposition of things which make it all the more delightfull. This book is Pride & Prejudice meets Sherlock Holmes meets possibly Frankenstein. You simply have to read it! There are so many wonderful elements contained in this glorious novel, that simply one of them would probably be enough to carry the plot. The fact that they're all alive and well in this book is equal parts astounding and mesmerizing. I'm sure I'll definitely be reading it again before the next installment hits bookstores which, unfortunately, is quite awhile from now. Until then, I leave you with one of my favorite quotes from this unforgettable novel:

"A vampire, like a lady, never reveals his true age."

  • Evermore

I won my copy of Evermore in the giveway section of goodreads-YAY! Having said that, it wasn't quite as good as I was hoping it would be. However, I have a feeling the story will get much more interesting in the next two books, and so I will be reading those. The plot is somewhat original and I'd like to see how it plays out. Oh, and I'm really hoping that Ever will give up the "V" card - soon. I mean, come on, what is with all these teenage girls practicing abstinence with their devastatingly handsome boyfriends who they're irrevocably in love with?! I'm sorry, but that is just not realistic. I know, I know, it's a funny path to go down when you're dealing with fantasy, but still, I need a good balance here! Oh, and officially I'm giving this a 3.5 rating.

I saw the movie a few years ago when it came out on video. I was somewhat dissapointed with it, but figured I'd give the book a chance, since the book is usually better. I didn't dislike the book, but it just didn't enthrall me the way I was hoping. The whole marriage thing disturbed me, because even though it's meant to be a clever scheme to obtain the orphans' money, there were definitely some sexual undertones. I might read the nest book in the series, since the mood that the book creates intrigues me.

Even though this is breaking away from my two favorite genres (fantasy and young adult) I really enjoyed this book. It's heartfelt and beautifully written-the literary equivalent of warm apple pie.

  • Persuasion (A Norton Critical Edition)
    • Rated 3 stars

I definitely like this the best out of the three Austen novels I've read so far (Emma, Pride & Prejudice, and Persuasion). I think Persuasion is the easiest story for modern readers to relate to. The two main characters are more mature, being older, and they have a history. I saw the movie before reading the book and I always really enjoyed it as well. In fact, I think I enjoyed it even more so. I definitely recommend this book to those who haven't read any Jane Austen.

Refreshingly original: two words that describe this book perfectly. After a stream of startingly similar plots in ya fiction these days, usually involving vampires, I was intrigued when I came across this book and knew I just had to check it out for myself. I am very impressed with Nancy Werlin and (having never heard of her before) anxious to read more by this very talented author. Everything in this book is wonderful. The storyline is original and compelling with the perfect combination of fantasy and reality. The two main characters, Lucy and Zach, are very near and dear to my heart. An absolutely wonderful story I don't soon wish to forget!

I just finished reading this book, and I have to say I definitely prefer it to the original novel written by Gaston Leroux. However, the 2004 movie will always hold the biggest place in my heart. While I enjoyed learning all the background information about Erik, I found myself anxious to get to the part concerning Christine, and wishing that part was longer. Overall though, I think it's a must read for Phantom Phans, especially those who prefer Erik to Raoul.

This book was definitely better than the last. While it's still not up to par with the first three books for me, the series seems to be improving. Kind of annoyed with the ending though-a cruel, cruel cliff-hanger. =\

After reading the first book in the series and being dissapointed by it, I wasn't expecting a lot from this one. Well, I was definitely most pleasantly surprised! After reading this installment, which I find to be infinitely superior to the first, I cannot wait to continue the series. Things definitely become much more interesting in this book since all the ground work is laid out for the series and all the main characters fully developed. If you're unsure after reading the first one, definitely read the second one before making up your mind-you won't be disappointed!

Everything Neil Gaiman writes is music to my ears. In my book, he can do no wrong. Having said that, unlike most people on here, I greatly prefer the book to the movie. Having seen the movie first, before I even knew who Neil Gaiman was, I wasn't terribly excited to read the book. I'm very glad I did though. I can't wait to read the original illustrated version, nor can I wait to read more wonderful things by Neil Gaiman.
