“Interview with the Vampire
2 Stars:
I read this book a few months ago, and honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about. I saw the movie many times before I read the book. I wasn't crazy about the movie either, but loved Antonio Banderas in it. It took me a long time to finish this book. I kept putting it down in favor of something more interesting. I found it to be very boring and long-winded. I've just started reading The Vampire Lestat and I already find it to be vastly more interesting. It must have been the character of Louis that turned me off.
The Vampire Lestat
4 Stars:
In my opinion, this is much better than its predecessor "Interview with the Vampire." I really enjoyed this book and read it every day until I finished. The characters are wonderful. Lestat is much more likeable in this one, and I find him much more interesting and more complex than Louis.
The Queen of the Damned
3 Stars:
I had high expectations for this book after reading The Vampire Lestat, which I loved, and hearing the Queen of the Damned movie (which I really enjoyed) is so crappy compared to the book. I was captivated by the first half of the book, but after that, it just started to drag for me. My favorite part was the character of Jesse, who I also loved in the movie. They definitely could have made a much better movie, since it doesn't accurately reflect the book at all. It's definitely "dumbed down." I think what made me lose interest in the book was the switching back and forth between different characters. While this interested me at first, because it was so different from the first two installments in the Vampire Chronicles, I think it started to irritate me, since some of the characters simply didn't interest me that much. Baby Jenks I absolutely hated while Khayman and Daniel, I simply found slightly boring. I still might continue the series, since I really liked the ending and certain elements of the book, and love some of the characters so much. It's quite possible that seeing the movie first, which isn't really even comparable to the book, because it takes waay too many liberties, ruined the book for me.”
