Live in NW suburbs of Chicago. Between jobs. Big fan of science fiction and fantasy, with a special fondness for Buffy the Vampire Slayer; additionally, a fan of feminist science fiction (BTW, WisCon is the best SF convention ever).. In other places online I might be known as Tarawizard, Taraswizard or Tara's wizard.

This is very good, I read it two or three years ago. Interestingly it was my reintroduction to reading speculative fiction.

This is an omnibus of Warrior's Apprentice and The Vor Game, and as far as the character of Miles is concerned these are the first two novels in Bujold's Vorkosigan tales.

Additionally, the book contains 'The Mountains of Mourning.", a novella based on the time that Miles first returns home after his time at the Barrayaran Military academy. MoM has to the one of the saddest stories ever written; however, a friend in California, another Bujold fan, says that MoM is the best explanation one can get about the context and content of Barrayaran society.

Read this a little while ago, and I think I liked Book of War better. IMO, I think the interactions between the Fang Gang and the Scoobies are really forced and not natural. I might have to read "Dark Congress" in order to fully evaluate this one.

Contrary to what some might say the two novels in this omnibus, Shards of Honor and Barrayar are really the first two volumes of Bujold's Miles Naismith Vorkosigan tales. The character Miles himself does not actually appear until the ending of Barrayar. IMO, if you're to miss these two books you really cannot appreciate Warrior's Apprentice and the Vor Game as thoroughly as you might.

Recommended. I't's a vampire book, BUT it's not like other vampire books you might have read. This is not like Anne Rice or Laurell K. Hamilton.

I actually read the HB edition.

HIghly recommended to all who are interested in books and writing. Heavily weighted to English, as opposed to U.S., interests and such (well the title is a clue). A joy to just sit down with and browse through.

Book is so good. Highly reommended. I read a copy from my local public library and since I've given the book twice as a gift, I feel like I'm entitled to include in my shelf.
