I'm bad at these "about me" things, but I suppose I should put something up, so here goes:

I read a lot, though not nearly as much as I did pre-kids. I usually read two books at a time, one fiction and one non-fiction. My current non-fiction interest is in the anthropological origins of religion -- fascinating! In fiction I tend... more »

I quite enjoyed this. Reminded me quite strongly of Edward Gorey Gashlycrumb Tinies. I keep expecting that one of the children will be eaten by a bear. (B is for Basil, assaulted by bears, if you'll recall).

I made it to the end! This series wasn't nearly as good as Elliott's Jaran series, but the first few books were engaging.

I might have liked this more if I had more interest in the New York art world. I thought the characters were poorly drawn and the plot twists were far too easily foreseen.

Has one of the best opening sentences ever. A compelling story of crime and concealment in a small college.

I adore this book. I shouldn't, really. I don't believe in the supernatural at all, but Robbins drew me in to his tale of Tarot archetypes and the Bozo and the Dog Star... Really fun read despite the usually annoying second person voice.

Probably my favorite sci-fi series. Features clearly-drawn characters in a fascinating universe.

If you love this series too you should search out Elliott's previous trilogy written under the name Alis Rasmussen (her actual name, I believe) called The Highroad Trilogy.

The only thing better than reading a Sedaris book is having Sedaris read it to you himself.

A must-have for those starting to really explore photography. Should be included with the purchase of every new SLR.

Wonderful look at current evolution at work in Darwin's famous finches of the Galapagos. I have such a better understanding of the mechanics and underlying principles of evolution after reading this engaging account.

My favorite book of all time. I read it a month before my 18th birthday, and it DID something to my very soul. Suddenly I saw this whole possible life that had been invisible to me before.

It may not be the best book ever written -- it may not even be Chabon's best -- but it is a book that changed me and I will always love it for that.
