All the comments are probably right if I look at this criticallt, but I am so glad to have Dick and Sid back I am willing to forgive the odd clunky passage. May Dick Francis live and write forever!

Following on from Francis and Francombe, another ex jocket turned author. Good crime stories if you like horseracing world. Another for the plane.

Can't stand the author, but he does write a good book. Another holiday read.

One of many written by this ex jockey. More horseracing tales, set in the Elglish countryside, close to where I grew up. Good tales of crime and mystery- a great holiday read.

Ok, I can't even pretend that this is a classic, but a great holiday read nevertheless.

A classic, to be read every Christmas Eve. has become a tradition and the best way to start the festive season.

Another British book- a group of schoolgirls growing up in more innocent times. A jolly read.

Her best good- I thoroughly enjoyed the weaving of stories and social history in post war Britain. I found her next couple of novels became too clever and then I lost interest, but can thoroughly recommend this one.

a great combination of history, geography and social studies. I love to delve in and discover the history of my old home. There is so much detail, wonderful drawings and great photos- a wonderful resource for parents and teachers alike.

A toss up between this and The Shell Seekers, which was the first Pilcher that I read. This one won as I read it when I was in hospital before and after I gave birth to our son- my husband went out and bought this large tome when I was confined to bedrest. The last chnace I have had to lie back and read a book in peace I think.

Not a literary classic, but a jolly good read, and I love the Englishness of the characters.
