This book has the most compelling plot. In this story Travis Wayne the son of the most powerful man in his town comes back from dropping out of college and is thrown back to old habits of partying and drugs. When he comes back everyone realizes that something has changed Travis although he denies it something terrible has happened to him that has made him think more of what his life has become to. Throughout the story he tries to get his old life back. First by trying to get his old girlfriend, Laura back, but when he finally gets her back he feels that something is wrong. When he finds out that one of his friend is being put in jail for drunk driving and killing two kids and his girlfriend everything begins to unravel. He finds out that Cliff his best friend since they were kids got his girlfriend pregnant and borrowed money from him to have the baby aborted. After that he tries to figure things out between who his real friends are and whether he still wants his old life back.

To me this book is mainly about a brother trying to protect his family from disappointment. Toby Malone is the middle child in the family after his mother and father have a difficult breakup his mother is depressed due to the outcome. After awhile everything seems to be fine his mother is no longer in her room crying and they are all back in school, but when Toby finds out that his brother is doing drugs he tries to hide it from his already broken family. When he thinks he has everything in control something happens that throw his mother back to the room.
