Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Painful,...Painful,.....Painful!! there's no other word that better describes all the books in the Encore romances. why oh why did my first foray into the genre have to be so disastrous??!!

so far so painful! the writing is, at best, amateurish. and am not even halfway through the book. so i can predict how the rest of it's about to turn out. thank god i didn't waste any of my own money on it(whatever little i have). 'twas a birthday present and although a lovely thought, i rue the day it was given to me.

  • Memoirs of a Geisha

one of the most endearing love stories of this decade, Arthur Golden handles the subject most beautifully for a man. the mysterious world of the Japanese geisha is presented to us through the eyes of a simple country girl with just a little too much water in her personality(i.e. those strinkingly rare grey eyes). through the story, the glamourous legends surrounding the facinating world of the Geisha have been dispelled while not robbing us of our enjoyment derived from its simplicity and beauty.

Although not one of the fastest moving(or smoothly flowing) narratives, to miss this series would be criminal. Bartimaeus(the djinn), who is your constant companion throughout the series, is the most well-thought-out, laugh-your-arse-off, abso-freakin'-lutely magnificient character. his equal is hard to find in any other contemporary fantasy series and, if not for his witticisms, the book would not be able to hold its own. a must-read for all fantasy fanatics even if a tragic ending is not something you're used to condoning!!

If you are an aficionado of the "supernatural romance" sub-genre, then not reading this series would be close to blasphemous. Although not the best book ever written, the series as a whole is worth every penny and every minute of your precious time spent reading it. the third book is my favourite of the series. But that, of course, is not taking into account the fourth(which hasn't come out yet). Even though i'm not particularly fond of this book, i adore the series and, as such, would heartily recommend it to every other fantasy freak out there.

This for me was as good as an E.M.Foster. though not quite as light as in 'Where angels may tread', the subject, which at times takes on a little too much brevity, is handled beautifully. although i really did enjoy this Bronte sister's work, i would not recommend her sister's Wuthering Heights to even my biggest foe.

If you r one of those people who can go through an M&B(Mills&Boon) book without losing ur lunch, and if u r particularly fond of the supernatural romances, then this is just the book for you. for me, ah well...i've been around a couple of decades but haven't gone through tht adolescent M&B stage and thank god for tht!! so this book wasn't something i usually pick up, but it's a good break from all those heavy, migraine-inducing classics. all-in-all quite a welcome refreshment. enjoy!!

  • Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3)
    • Rated 3 stars

If you are on the lookout for a book that is full of one bad, teenage, life-altering decision after another, with a vampire-human-werewolf love traingle thrown in,this is definitely the book for you. although this is only One of the three books in the Twilight series, Eclipse is, by far, the most frustrating. not because it's a bad book, far from it actually (i adore the series. can't believe i went so long unaware of its existence), but because the protagonist's true character is finally revealed (she's a spineless, witless, sickeningly lost damsel-in-distress). and if you are a teenager (something i have not been for a yr now **sniff, sniff**) you'll know exactly how maddeningly unbalanced raging hormones can make you...and understand why she is as silly as she is!!

Let's first focus on who the book's essentially about....Vermeer!! well,i really can't make up my mind about him. cos he paints this, and let's just be frank here, ordinary young woman and makes it an exquisite piece, enough to make any man think of her as breathtakingly beautiful. what most people fail to understand is that it's the sincerety of emotion in her eyes that comes through so plainly, that makes us fall in love with her...not just the subject herself or the masterful strokes of the painter. bcos apart from this one piece.....i don't really like Vermeer and i am not ashamed to admit that fact. ah well,....the book was..quite the read! To capture, or rather, try to encapsulate the feelings that this particular painting rouses in most would be an impossible task. but Chevalier does as good a job as any contemporary novelist of her calibre..maybe even a better one!!

well, this is the first ever Tan book i could get my hands on...and it was from my mother's library. didn't even know she had it. read it when i was 12, which is the age at which most individuals don't even try to understand a subject that is a level higher than in any Enid Blyton book. but the "stories" are so compelling and the writing technique so spell-bindingly magnificient that you just can't bear to part with the book for even a fraction of a second. if this book can't help u understand the intense connection or the true nature of the relationship between mothers and daugthers, then no other book will ever come close.
