Eli

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

You like the anime more than one of the greatest films of all time. Sigh! Where's this country going to! heh :)
In anime, I've only watched them studio ghibli films. And also akira. But i prefer the graphic novels to the anime.
Figured out any of the post grad things yet? Just been super busy with work and a zillion things. How bad are the rains this year.

Fantasy authors?... Now that I think of it, I haven't read anyone off-the-beaten-path of mainstream fantasy, so you've probably read/heard the ones I could justly recommend: Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Madeleine L'engle, Diana Wynne Jones, and so on. I'll probably pick up Stroud sometime though. I once had a project going on to read all Edith Nesbit works, as well as George MacDonald's, but it's a project in progress/cancellation.

Regards. Thanks for the sharing. I'm taking up nursing for a whole lot of reasons, one of which is because it's in demand and is a passport to financial stability and going to other countries. I'm hoping to pick up true, stable empathy, and love for the job along the way. Ciao to you, too.

Vampires, Witches & Were’s all that
would like to invite you to participate in the ABC contest starting on July 1, 2008.
I will post a thread that has the letters of the ABC's list, then start your own thread for example mine would be Sherry's ABC's and list the books that you read with those letters has the first letter in any title of book, it doesn't have to be in the genre either. Each person will be responsible for sending me their points via the group email at vampireswitchesweresallthat@yahoo.com. For every book you read during the time period (until the next letters are posted) you will receive 10 points in the email you must list the title, author, and pages so that if there is tie, we will use page count to break the tie. Everyone is eligible to win, even admin's as a third party will be keeping track of the points for me...so post the books you read...I will post the first letters on July 1.

    As always happy reading..
Show me the books he loves and I shall know the man
far better than through mortal friends.

Eli, so sorry I couldn't reply to you.. I'm starting college right now (it plainly sucks) and I haven't got much time for anything else, especially a task so precious/demanding/time-restricted as introducing the L heirs arc of Death Note. I'm really sorry I couldn't explain any thing to you right now, believe me I've meant to the past few days when I breezed past Shelfari but talking about Mello and Near's play in the scenario takes a bit more heart and dedication and energy than I could muster right now. I'm really sorry, when I encouraged you to ask me out I didn't actually want to disappoint... I'll be making it up the next time I log in. Anyways, I always die inside when I see L fall, but in the similar way that having seen Death Note didn't stop you from watching other anime or getting on with your life, if you did (I can't seem to, anyway, so I'm not sure if you're that type of person either), I encourage you to watch the Mello-and-Near spiral, not to cover L's death with a fine carpet of forget-me's, but to, I suppose, enjoy the episodes in themselves, find their own worth and blah. If only to watch Light die, har har har (though cross that if you're a Light fan. Light's not completely evil, and can be justified, and all that, I suppose). But believe me, Mello is just as tragic as L... the whole series is worth seeing.

Anyway, about that "semblance of internal peace." I'm glad you've put into words what I can't seem to, but feel everyday.. Life just stops when it's about L, doesn't it? So tell me, how do you cope? Therapy would be very much appreciated. Most of the time I see and feel L more than the earth beneath my feet, the people around and so on.. I'm sorry if I weird you out, it really is that way.

I hear you're twenty-one... are you still in college? If so, what are you taking? If not, what's your line of work? Of course, you don't have to answer if you feel that those information are sacred. It's just me and my selfish, shameless sucking at any words of encouragement/commiseration I can get, the feel that somewhere, somehow, people get on with their lives.

That Hellsing anime... when the sky falls and I finally have time, I'll be first to watch. So don't give up on me seeing it before an eternity passes away.:) I love fantasy books, too.. I'll be picking one up, and then we can discuss it, when...

Let's not put a time premium on that one. :)

Really sorry it took so long and came out so meaningless, but I'll be giving a post of more worth some time soon! In the meantime, please be happy, and if I disappointed you from expectations of eloquent summaries, maybe it'll turn out for the better- passing me off as a hopeless guide (though a shameless spoiler) and watching DN yourself. If you're prepared for a bit more of depression.

In any case, if what you really wanted were summaries, just trust yourself to Wikipedia,

Hi Eli! No, you'll always be very welcome to barge in, and I'm thoroughly glad to have known you. About Death Note- I gather you're a DN fan, and a lot of them leave off when L died.. Are you absolutely sure you want spoilers? :) I'll be glad to do so once I make sure you won't trash me for revealing plot endings, so be sure to confirm again! Though, I know the sentiments of the L community and I really lost myself the day I watched L die (and was spaced out for weeks afterwards), Near and Mello's (the two Wammy orphans-slash-L's heirs) arc is just as interesting, and worth the watch, if for nothing else but to see the-- the, err, ending. :) Yeah, and Makubex is my favorite Getbackers character among a multitude of interesting personalities. I don't know that much anime but I'm obsessive with the ones I really like and know.

Speaking of which, and to return the favor you did of identifying both name and image, that's Alucard from Hellsing that you've got right? I haven't seen the series yet. I don't know what Akkarin means/who he is but... is he from Final Fantasy or some other video game?

I'll be glad to hear from you. :)

just finished persuasion last night. it was slower moving than northanger abbey (which i finished a few days ago), but good. kind of doing a reprise of books i've read before, and am starting with austen. visions of 19th century bucolic life is feeling a bit seductive right now. my wish list had the new anita blake book on it, but my birthday was the other day, and my brother's wife took a peek at my list and got it for me. as to why so short? i think i just put on there stuff i'd be just thrilled to get (i.e. julie czerneda is pretty hard to find at the book store and is currently only out in expensive hard back). as far as exploring what the world has to offer, at least once a week i'm at the book store buying one or two just to check out something new. but i wouldn't put it on my wish list unless i was wild for it.

there is good wicked and bad wicked. obscuring arthurian scholarship is the latter and not to be tolerated. the rest of wicked, however, is open to interpretation. life would be quite boring with out a good dose of it.

Well...it was a tough book to review for me. I too felt depressed through most of the book. I respected the passion in the characters, but it was always so twisted and most times evil. Im not sure why Ive heard sighs over Heathcliff and Catherine's love over the years from fellow readers. I suppose, overall, I felt like it was well written and has survived the ravages of time so the author, although gone now, deserved her due. I would reccommend the book to others...with a warning. Oh, not sure if you finshed it yet or not...well I wont spoil anything.
