"We think, sometimes, there's not a dragon left. Not one brave knight, not a single princess gliding through secret forests, enchanting deer and butterflies with her smile.
We think sometimes that ours is an age past frontiers, past adventures. Destiny, it's way over the horizon; glowing shadows galloped past long ago, and gone.

i'm with you on this. can't think of anything but the 5d even for myself. i've taken a break of sorts, haven't picked up the camera in nearly months.
thank you for yr kind words. there is no riddle, i just didn't want to post the flickr link here :)
i have a couple of other interesting things:
    1. the lytro. seems almost revolutionary stuff. will probably come out as a point & shoot with great possibilities. check it out. http://www.lytro.com/
shoot first focus later. being 'knowledgeable' isn't necessary, you know (very few film critics and historians made for interesting film makers, for instance), but a bit of digging around clears the dirt from the diamonds.
it's good to know what yr getting into and what you can do with it.

glad you didn't go for the 1d mk ii, u know how old that is? not to mention huge. even if i could afford the 1d series, i wouldn't buy it, they're rugged dogs but they are as good for yr pocket as they are for your neck. i'd buy a leica instead heheh.

    2. the sigma system of image sensing, compared to the rest (canon, nikon and the rest of the bastards).
read about it. it can change your life. more importantly look at the pictures: http://www.sigma-sd.com/SD14/feature/index.html
the sd-14 is old, not exactly a new camera. it ain't even full frame. but how is it that i have never seen a picture from a 5d have so much real detail?
this, my dear, is what images can and should look like.
canon, nikon, et al, henceforth referred to as 'the bastards', have pulled a monopolistic one on this. 1/3 the data, anti aliasing, cheap algorithms that reduce actual colour to a kind of approximate fuzz. it's sick really, makes me want to scream at the photofolk: wake up.
throw that bayer sensor into the gutter and employ a foveon.
sadly i have never used a sigma dslr, let alone seen one. the new sigma sd-1, which could've turned the tide, has been priced at a ridiculous $7000+ street price. no one will buy it but a handful. sad. those sigma geeks could've have put it between the 5d and 1d iv, and junta would've lapped it up. slowly at first but in a year or so. if it delivers what it promises. problem is most people, even photographers, are blind. in any case, most people think the foveon promise is crap and i dont blame them. they haven't seen real pixels ever in their life.

    so.

    man, that was personal!

good luck for the 5d. if you can wait till mid next year, 5d iii should be out and about by then, but probably pricey. i dont think i will wait though.
tell me about this dadar fellow of yours. the lomo india page maintains details on similar film developing/processing folks. a friend of mine regularly shoots medium format on his hasselblad. i can sense the romance, but it's not the only thing for me, really. i have no allegiance, digital vs film, which one's shit and which one's better. geeks who abuse one over the other, well, they're either supremely good, or supremely dull. whatever works for you, do it. in the end what counts is: did you get that picture?
technical shit is just a means to see the world in yr own image. i'd be happy to go back to phone cameras for all i care, and often do.

ok. i will take a pause. the court is in recess.
btw, i shifted shop back to bombay. feels good. though i'm tucked far away - in kandivali - i've come to like it here.

the strap, that dashed thing. gave me an itch too. that and the peanut sized viewfinders. what the f*** is wrong with people. i dont get it.
u want to take pictures and they'll do everything technologically possible to come in the way.
i feel like going in for a small rangefinder, film i mean.
btw, i got a lomo lca+ quite sweet, point and shoot type film bugger. i've been roaming around the streets and hitting cheap fuji film. it's good fun. u should check the lomo india page on facebook, they've got some really funky cameras.
they dont have an indian store yet, cameras ship from HK or something. cant buy anything right now though, have to put money together for a fullframe i'm thinking. either that or a leica. i am fed up with this in between crap heh.

listen, gits keep growing, it's the law of the land :)
and don't be so touchy, i'm not from guggenheim :P
i can understand though, showing pictures is personal business. very much so. i feel that more than most, i suppose.
finally it's not about the camera, it's about what you see or don't. worst comes to worst i'll go back to the phone heh.
    keep up the shooting :)
i can show you my pictures, i'm less touchy. (hear hear)

oh well, where to begin :)
i gave up collecting books. had a little giveaway sale and got rid of about 450 or so. feel much lighter now with a refined and minimal stash. reading's gone down, certainly. i don't regret it so much. still read a bit on and off, randomly of course.
i have shot with the k1000 once a long time ago, it's a nice one. where do you put yr pictures, flickr or something? do tell, want to see. is the Ti, i guess is also known as 500D. i have the 450. no video of course. i think i may have marginally improved over the year or so. more at processing than anything else. i can't not shoot :) it's a prayer of sorts. i have given up on theatrics heh. i'm only interested in that direction, if at all, photographically.
    intellect sorely diminishing, check.
and i hate that fcking looping - around - the - neck shit strap, a most terrible invention. hence a Rstrap which i have recently acquired. now one feels more like a shooter.
so what are you upto as of before the rains?
i'm shifting house soon, from one lease to another. had taken up hibernation in thane, nearly for a year. now it's time to get back and do some more work.
what else hmm. show some pictures :)

I haven't made it to the library yet. Actually that's not true. I went and collected a huge stack of books to check out and they denied me because I left my card at home. Wouldn't even accept a drivers license. Gave me the option of holding them for 30 minutes if I went back home and got it. The angst.... let me tell you. All that work of happily collecting new reads, anxiously anticipating the joys of curling up with a good book later that night, only to be left high and dry at the last moment:).

Good news though - Stroud has 4 other novels and several kids books. The only other fantasy he wrote is "Heroes of the Valley" and I hear it's really good. It's supposed to be funny - like Bartimaeus funny.

Haha so very, very true about the pop world, oh wise one! I kind of figured that out when Miley *Freaking* Cyrus came into the world... all thanks to her hill-billy daddy! I now have 3 *including myself* people in the band. My best friend is rhythm guitarist and back vocals, a guy in my class is the bass player, and i am still lead singer unless they kick me out (which i hope they won't because i started this whole riot)
Linkin Park phase huh? I guess i am still in it! And yes their new song was on the wonderful Transformers... yeah i am a geek that like transformers! But a lot of my friends do.
I am kinda a lazy bum too. I am going to Hawaii and am trying to get in shape... not very good at this!
I really don't know what kind of tea i like... almost any. It calms me down.
Well i better go so i can go on my Internet power walk!

Ha ha! i like the sound of an edgy chick singing with a really strong band behind her... i hate all the pop where you can only here the voice and none of the music! it drives me crazy!!! i am a guitarist but it is really hard to be a lead guitarist AND sing at the same time... hard to beleive since they make it look so effortless on the movies.... I love linkin park... have you heard there newest song; new divide? haven't heard of the other 2 though....
ahhh i don't beleive that lattes are for kiddies! well... i can't say that because i am technically STILL a kiddie! i think green tea but not as much as... ummm i can't think of the kind that i make... well i will tell you some other time.
i think i will check some of the manga out... if they have it at the library.

A jazz singer! i never would have guessed that... and i am serious! did you like it? you recorded??
AHHH! so thats what a cuppa is... i LOVE tea and i like really fancy coffee like lattes and stuff... black coffee gives me stomache aches...
