  • Everybody Loves a Good Drought: Stories from India's Poorest Districts
    • Rated 4 stars

Sainath confirms my worst fears in this book: that is modern, educated middle and upper class urban Indians do not have a clue on what is happening in real India. They do not (want to) understand what development means to the people who most need it.

Sainath clearly shows that underdevelopment, drought, corruption and class discrimination are in most cases, a result of (or aided by) short sighted and absurd policies, supported by a completely false representation of the reality of rural India.

The pages that explain the importance given by the media on events rather than processes that result in these events is an eye opener on how one should analyze any particular news item seen on TV or read in newspapers and journals.
