I mostly read books that inspire me whether it be applied to my art, my life, or my spirituality. I mostly read novels when I am in the pool (floating - not swimming!) those tend to be mystery suspense type novels (I like a bit of a dark twist).

The things I treasure most in my life are my husband and son and the canine members of the...more »

  • Chakra Healing and Karmic Awareness
    • Rated 1 stars

By page 6 my eyes had glazed over. I stuck with it (barely) for awhile but by the second page of chapter 3, I felt as though I was reading a book written entirely in a foreign language.

This is not a book for someone exploring new-age healing. It is very technical, and a reader would benefit from having an understanding of Karma and Cakras. A very difficult read for a newbie. . .

A very nice coffee table book. It is one of those that is so large, though that it doesn't fit on the book shelf. A very nice representation of VanGogh's work, the printing is nice, and the text looks informative. I am looking forward to exploring it further.

  • Artist's Materials: All the Materials You Will Ever Need to Make Art
    • Rated 4 stars

A comprehensive, in-depth guide to Artists Materials. A great resource for a beginning artist. It covers not only every medium available, but the process of use as well. It gives you enough information to know whether you want to try something or not. I really like this great resource and refer to it often.

  • The Ephemera Book (Design Originals)
    • Rated 2 stars

A commercially gathered collection of Ephemera for your collaging and Multi-Media crafting use. Pages are single sided so you can cut them out. Nice images, quality is good, but having the book takes the fun out of the "hunt." Also, the book is copyrighted so that puts a damper on selling the items you make with these images. Fine for the hobbyist or people who don't have time for the search. . .

  • Stamping with Style: Sensational Ways to Decorate Paper, Fabric, Polymer Clay & More
    • Rated 3 stars

Finally a book on stamping that is geared more toward the "artsy" stamper. I enjoyed the projects, techniques, and looks shown here. The techniques are not difficult, any level of stamper can do these projects. The book shows stamping on everything -- fabric, paper, clay, -- even umbrellas! This book could help some people out of their comfort zone to try something new. I enjoyed the book.

  • Polymer Clay Extravaganza
    • Rated 4 stars

Great projects and easy to follow tutorials with wonderful photography!
Another beginners guide to Polymer Clay. Lisa Pavelka is a wonderful artist, and I found the projects to be simple enough for a newbie to follow, yet detailed enough to be inspiring. The projects were less "craft show cute," and more inspiring to a mixed media artist.
She also showed ways of mixing clay in your paper ats, and various craft projects - much more than making beads and clay characters. I did like the faux dichroic glass heart pendant a lot, and must try this one myself!

  • Creative Ways with Polymer Clay
    • Rated 2 stars

This is an ok book for beginner clay artists and crafters. If you have done any basic work with polymer clay, the projects and tips may be a little basic for you. I would recommend getting it from the library if you want to check it out. (Luckily I only paid $2 at Half Price Books, and I am very much a beginner in polymer clay!)

  • Open Mind: Women's Daily Inspiration for Becoming Mindful
    • Rated 4 stars

This is a great book for daily mindfulness inspiration. I have looked for a long time for an inspirational book that was geared more toward spirituality than religion, and I think I have finally found one! I am looking forward to starting each day with it to become more spiritual and daily doses of thought provoking material. Bonus - found it on the clearance shelf at Half-Price Books!!!!
