I love books. I value them for the knowledge they contain and as collectibles. I read about all kinds of things: from religion & spirituality, philosophy, (etno)botany, ecology ... to works of fiction and poetry. I suggest you browse through my book shelves using tags (located below the book shelf) to get a clearer picture. During the last few... more »

Definitely one of the best, if not the best book of the series in terms of writing style and quality. The ending was a bit disappointing, but I guess that's not the author's fault since the novel is based on the comic book. I wish all other Alien books were as good as this one!

  • The Female War

As a fan of Aliens franchise I enjoyed the story as I enjoy pretty much everything related to the Aliens universe.
As a book/literature connoisseur, however, I found The Female War lacking in several ways. The book should have 50-100 additional pages to expand upon certain parts of the story (alien planet and Earth). It seemed to me that Perry wrote Female War in haste: writing is sketchy, most characters underdeveloped, action sequences spilled out like they were shot with the M41 Pulse Rifle. I consider this book to be a good draft rather than a final, polished work. It could have been so much more if only Perry had put more effort into it.

This book is like a "Lonely Planet guide" to the spiritual landscapes of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. The author provides a very clear and easy-to-understand overview of the stages along the path of Mahamudra & Dzogchen. Readers, however, will not find any detailed practice instructions inside this book as Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche often stresses the importance of a guru-disciple relationship instead of relying only on textual instructions.

One of the most interesting books I've read. There is only one thing I found that could be improved: grammar, style of writing and book layout (OK, that's 3 things :-) ).

  • Drawing the Head and Hands
    • Rated 5 stars

An oldie, but a goodie! The book has a very vintage feel to it: characteristic faces of that era and a way of explaining things, but nevertheless, Loomis' drawings are top-notch - you can see a master at work in this book. Even without the text, "Drawing the Head & Hands" would still be one of the best books in this field. Loomis developed his own system of constructing the head, a system that is near fool-proof, if you take the time to master the basics. Granted, it isn't the easiest method, but I've gotten very good and anatomically correct results using it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about learning to draw the head & hands correctly.

Obvezno čtivo za vsakega plezalca začetnika. Knjiga vsebuje napotke za tehniko pri športnem plezanju, ki bi jih moral obvladati vsak plezalec.

  • An Introduction to Oil Painting (DK Art School)
    • Rated 5 stars

As the title of the book says: An introduction to oil painting. The book offers practical and real-life advices for novice oil painters. 72 pages may seem not enough, but trust me, they contain everything you need to know to start painting in oils. Of course, there are books out there with 500 pages or more that will claim to teach you absolutely everything there is to know about oils, but I think practice and direct experience is a thousand times more valuable than theory. The only thing that this book failed to mention was the technique of working from background to foreground, which can be important sometimes.

  • The Mission
    • Rated 5 stars

Essential reading for all The Mission fans! The book spans from formative years and up until the Neverland album. Roach and Perry managed to create vivid and lasting images of the band through entertaining anecdotes and narration which often includes information you can't find anywhere else.
