Oh, where to start?

I'm an avid reader with lots of other interests that both drive my interest in and are driven by books. My biggest passion (right now and aside from my family) is triathlon. I started participating in them three years ago, and this year I just finished my first half Ironman (70.3 miles of... more »

Hi Anita, I saw that the author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is going to be speaking in Frederick, MD. It is a free event and it is not too far from Baltimore so I thought I would pass the information along.

The present part was pretty mediocre, i felt it was more then mediocre . I gave it 2 stars , becouse I liked 3 of the short stories and the part that was in the past . I would of stopped reading it and gave it 1 star if it had not been for that .

I have a review for The Gargoyle on my shelf but this should sum it up I enjoyed the three of love stories that Marianne Engel tells in the book , I also enjoyed the fourteenth-century love story . That she tells the Narrator . I just did not like the modern parts of the book . I found them to be long and boring to read . I also just hated most if not all of the charters in the modern part of the book . I gave it 2 out of 5 stars .

He's also planning suicide, and murder. I think those are circles in Dante's Inferno. I've never read it, but I've heard it talked about so much, I don't feel like I need to, lol.

I'm about 75 pages in. He just admitted to murder. I don't know the story about that yet, but it seems like he's just the combination of all the things you go to hell for. I suppose, like his burns, he embodies Dante's levels of hell?

I started it over the weekend. It is very graphic, but I'm enjoying it. Are they trying to make him just completely unlikable?

The bias doesn't surprise me since Toobin is the author. That's the great thing about non-fiction it makes you want to keep reading!

Great. I'm trying to finish my second memoir from last month. It's not that it's bad, I've just hit that time of year where I have so much going on that I find it hard to dedicate myself to reading. I should have it finished in a week or so, then I'll be excited to start The Gargoyle.

That was so nice of you to send me a message! I actually haven't gone anywhere. I've been around the whole time, lurking and reading the reviews, and reading several books for every monthly tag as usual.

All that happened was, I was working on a big special project and didn't have the time to write reviews. You can see it here: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/GhostOfARose/in-dreams-mystery-shawl
It is part of a series that this designer is doing of Lord of the Rings-themed projects. This shawl is inspired by Galadriel - the pattern is named "In Dreams", her theme song in the movies, and the colors were chosen with that in mind. The lace motifs in the shawl are designs from her crown. As a life-long Tolkein fan, how could I resist?!! It is a heirloom/masterpiece work not only for its beauty and meaning, but also for its difficulty. (The pros agreed that this pattern is "as difficult as anything out there." I'm so proud that I was able to do it!) So it took up ALL of my time - I worked on it very intensively. That's why I stopped posting reviews.

I haven't gotten back into writing reviews yet because I've enjoyed having the time to do knitting as well. I don't have to make a choice between knitting and reading because I can do them both at the same time, by listening to audiobooks! And I've always gotten lots of real reading done by reading while eating, brushing teeth, waiting in lines and offices, etc. So those things were never a time conflict. But writing so many reviews was taking up so much of my spare time that I had to make a hard choice so that could do other things I love as well.

I'm currently working on another big knit-along project with the same designer as the shawl. She has a whole series of Lord of the Rings designs.

But I've always loved reading, and I love this group and the people in it, so I'm not going anywhere! I'm still around and will stay around! I do want to still post reviews from time to time - I feel that I should give back some of what I get from reading other people's reviews here. I've gotten so many recommendations for great reads from this group!
